My pit bull's eyes are red, watery, and enlarged. What should I do?

Place an e-collar (cone) on him to prevent rubbing or pawing. A cool compress may decrease swelling. Ideally, he should be examined by your veterinarian to diagnose and treat any trauma to the eye to prevent permanent damage or loss of vision. It appears he may have an entropion. This is where the eyelids roll inward so the hair and lashes can scratch the eye and cause irritation. This maybe secondary to confirmation or secondary from swelling. Your vet can check for an ulcer and hopefully prescribe anti inflammatory meds if there is not one. From there, they will check for dry eye and discuss surgery to fix the entropion to provide permanent relief

This is probably an allergic reaction due to an insect bite or a plant outside. those reactions tend to resolve within 48 hours without treatment. if the swelling becomes too large or if Bo is lethargic, take him to the vet in order to get an antihistamine injection.

I think Bama should have his eyes looked at today or tomorrow at the latest. It could just be allergies or conjunctivitis but he could have inflammation with in the eyes (uveitis) or scratches on his corneas. The squinting indicates pain. When it comes to eyes its best to have them looked at sooner than later. I hope this helps and i wish Bama the very best!

The eye must be checked immediately to make sure there is nothing wrong with it that requires immediate check up. A trauma, injury, acute inflammation/allergic reaction or infection could all be possible. Regarding the vomiting episode, I would recommend to withhold food for 12 hours and then start feeding her with a bland diet based in chicken and rice (boiled) in small portions every 6hours. Keep feeding her like that for 2days and then go back gradually to normal dietary regime.

I am sorry to hear this! His eye does look very irritated- and the area around his eye that has a 'cobblestone' appearance suggests that he has some chronic irritation. I would want to rule out a few things that cause these signs including stray eyelashes that are 'ingrown', eyelid abnormalities, allergies and mites. The good news is that most of these things can be treated successfully! I would bring him in and have a few eye tests done and have them closely examined with magnification (sometimes an ophthalmologist is recommended) and see what kind of treatment plan is needed. Until you can bring him in, over the counter lubricating eye drops may bring some short term relief. I hope this helps!
