My dog fell from a height. She seems fine, but what signs of injury?

Pet's info: Dog | Boxer | Female | spayed | 9 years old | 65 lbs

My 65 lbs boxer was about to go down a twisty slide (not unusual) but lept off the top and landed on her side/back from 5-6 feet. The ground was spongy playground stuff so there is some cushion. She seems normal but I’m worried that she’s just very tough. I keep tracing her body with my hands looking for anything out of the normal and for her to show pain. She isn’t showing any pain. just happened 1 hour ago and the pet ER is expensive so I wondered if I can just watch her and what to look for.

If Chiquita seems to be fine then I would not be overly worried. If she does anything abnormal like not eating, limping, is lethargic, etc then you should get her to the vet right away.

If Ellie landed on her feet and is walking and acting fine, then it would be ok to monitor for now and bring her to the veterinarian if you notice any lameness or any abnormalities like loss of appetite or something like that. However, if she landed on her head then it would be best to have her examined by a veterinarian to make sure she is ok since she is so small. Good luck and have a good night! I'm so sorry Gemma had that experience today. How scary for her! Since Gemma is still growing, I would watch her closely for any lameness. Growing dogs can damage their growth plates and will have long term problems if not treated. So, if there is any lameness, I would recommend having her evaluated by your veterinarian. My only other worry would be if she hurt her abdomen in the fall. If she is not eating normally, seems lethargic or doesn't want to move around normally, I would also have her evaluated by your veterinarian. I hope that answers your question.

My dog fell, is limping and barely moving. Should I take her to vet?

Hi. I'm sorry Chupa hurt herself. If she is dragging her rear legs she needs to be seems by a vet asap. She may have a back or spinal cord injury. If she can stand and move both legs she may be ok with a bit of rest but if she is dragging her legs at all or wobbly on them then she needs to be checked by a vet. In the meantime don't let her jump up or down on furniture, make sure to carry her up and down stairs and keep her confined to a small area or crate. I hope Chupa is better soon.

Poor Naila! I'm glad to hear that she is playing and active after the fall. Fortunately, falling from the couch is a relatively short distance. At this point, since Naila is active with no signs of pain or injury, there is nothing you need to do. However, closely watch her over the next day or so to make sure she continues moving around normally, acting normally, and is eating and drinking appropriately. If you observe any changes, she should see a vet for an exam. I hope that all goes well!
