My chihuahua fell and hit her head. What signs of injury to watch for?

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Female | 4 lbs

I don't know how to do follow ups but when I recieved my answer earlier they asked for photos. So sorry I'm doing this again, just showing pics this time. In short:my old chi fell of the bed and I'm certain she hit her head(approx 13hrs ago I think) she still hasn't shown any symptoms. Has eaten and peed, etc all fine. Only off thing is when she first hit her head earlier she paced a lot. But hasn't again. PS. She has cataracts for awhile. The fog is not new.

If Eriko isn't showing any other signs since her fall 13 hours ago, I would just continue to monitor her. She may have been pacing because she was in pain. Continue to keep an eye on her, and if she develops any concerning signs or starts pacing again, have her seen by a vet. Best of luck.

If Ellie landed on her feet and is walking and acting fine, then it would be ok to monitor for now and bring her to the veterinarian if you notice any lameness or any abnormalities like loss of appetite or something like that. However, if she landed on her head then it would be best to have her examined by a veterinarian to make sure she is ok since she is so small. Good luck and have a good night! What to do if my chihuahua hit her head and might have a concussion?

IF kismet is eating,drinking, being active and using the restroom I would just recommend monitoring her closely at home. We do not typically diagnose concussions in veterinary medicine. Typically if a dog hits there head they are fine. My only concern with a chihuahua is that they can still have a open spot on there head. If they hit this region it can cause a seizure. If you feel like Kismet is acting lethargic or having seizure activity I would recommend taking her to an emergency clinic for observation. Other wise just monitor at home

If Conley seems alert, responsive and non-painful at this point after the incident I doubt there is potential for head trauma. Signs of head trauma or internal injury would include lethargy, disorientation, different sized pupils or labored/irregular breathing. You also may want to make sure she is eating and drinking normally with no pain to make sure she didn't injure her mouth or a tooth during the fall. Puppies are pretty resilient and I would bet there are no lasting injuries.

I would suggest to monitor him closely for the next 48 hours and record any abnormal sign you may notice. I would especially concern (so that would require an immediate check up) if you notice signs like lethargy, inappetence, vomiting or abnormal behaviour. Poor Bruno! I am sure it hurt when he hit his head. Monitor him for any abnormal signs and have your vet take a look at him if you notice anything concerning, like disorientation, unsteadiness, unequal or dilated pupils, nausea, etc. If he just hit his head while turning around there probably wasn't enough force to cause any major damage.
