My dog's eye is irritated and draining after grooming. What now?

It is likely that some shampoo, air from the dryer, or even small bits of hair from trimming got in your dog's eye and caused irritation. You can try to rinse your dog's eye gently with saline solution (like you use for contacts). However, there could be a scratch on your dog's eye (the cornea) as well. If it doesn't look better in 24 hours, see your veterinarian for testing to see if there is a scratch on your dog's eye and get appropriate medication.

Poor guy. Unfortunately we see this a lot with pets that recently get groomed. It is likely Corry got some chemicals (i.e. shampoo, conditioner) in his eye, causing it to create an ulcer or scratch. He will need to see your local vet to have a stain test done on his eye to determine if our suspicions are right here. If he does have this going on, then a short course of prescription eye antibiotics should take care of the issue, as long as it has not progressed too far. You can rinse the eye with sterile eye solution to get any product out of the eye. If she's still squinting and the cornea is blueish tomorrow morning please take her in for an exam. She may have a scratch on her cornea which is painful and can result in a corneal ulcer. They will stain the eye and can prescribe medication if needed. It sounds like your pet Daisy has a very common situation here which is a chemical burn or scratch on her cornea (surface of her eye). This is common after being groomed because shampoo or condition can get on the eye and isn't washed off properly or promptly. Poor girl. I would recommend taking her to your local vet as soon as you can to get her eye examined, tested and treated. Kylo could have conjunctivitis which can be caused by infections or allergies. I would recommend having your veterinarian take a look - they might also want to apply a stain to the eyes to make sure there's no evidence of a scratch on the corneas. Allergic and infectious conjunctivitis are usually treated with various topical eye drops. I wouldn't recommend a tea bag on her eye - it could be irritating.

I'm sorry your pup isn't feeling well. He needs to be check for an ulcer or scratch of his cornea- he needs to see a vet for that. You can rinse with contact solution and if no improvement in 12 hours, I would take him to the vet. Good luck and kisses to your pup!

Without seeing your dog in person we cannot say for certain, but it is possible that this could be a subconjunctival hemorrage. It can be a result of hypertension (elevated blood pressure), trauma, coagulopathy (blood clotting disorder). Usually this goes away on its own eventually, but if he is acting uncomfortable then a vet visit it best. They can test your dog's blood pressure, and be sure there are no signs of a bleeding disorder, and give pain medication if needed to make him more comfortable.
