My dog's eye is closed after grooming. Is she injured or in pain?

Poor guy. Unfortunately we see this a lot with pets that recently get groomed. It is likely Corry got some chemicals (i.e. shampoo, conditioner) in his eye, causing it to create an ulcer or scratch. He will need to see your local vet to have a stain test done on his eye to determine if our suspicions are right here. If he does have this going on, then a short course of prescription eye antibiotics should take care of the issue, as long as it has not progressed too far. You can place a cold compress on the outside lid for a few minutes tonight and then its best to get him seen by your vet first thing in the morning. I hope that your pet Corry gets well soon! You can rinse the eye with sterile eye solution to get any product out of the eye. If she's still squinting and the cornea is blueish tomorrow morning please take her in for an exam. She may have a scratch on her cornea which is painful and can result in a corneal ulcer. They will stain the eye and can prescribe medication if needed. Based on what you are describing, it definitely sounds like Princess sustained some trauma to her eye from the soap getting into it. If she is squinting her eye, she is definitely painful and should be seen by your veterinarian as soon as possible. Soap can cause superficial corneal ulcers to occur, which can rapidly worsen without treatment, especially if she is continuing to scratch at her eye and traumatize it further. Corneal ulcers, if left untreated, can become deeper and deeper to the point of causing the eye itself to rupture - if this occurs, the eye must be removed. If you have an Elizabethan collar (E-collar) at home, I recommend putting that her Princess right away to keep her from scratching at it. Please have Princess seen by your vet or an emergency veterinarian as soon as possible to start treating her eye. Do NOT give any pain medications that are intended for humans to Princess, as these can be fatally toxic to dogs. I hope this is helpful - best of luck with Princess!

That sounds like Dodsie may have burned her eyes. This is likely painful and requires treatment. I recommend to have her seen today by a veterinarian. The doctor will need to stain her eyes to look for burns on the cornea. Medications will depend up the exam findings and stain results. It is likely that some shampoo, air from the dryer, or even small bits of hair from trimming got in your dog's eye and caused irritation. You can try to rinse your dog's eye gently with saline solution (like you use for contacts). However, there could be a scratch on your dog's eye (the cornea) as well. If it doesn't look better in 24 hours, see your veterinarian for testing to see if there is a scratch on your dog's eye and get appropriate medication.

Since it has not improved, consider an exam with your veterinarian. Kylo may have an infection, corneal injury (scratch or ulcer) or foreign body. Your vet can stain the eye to aid in diagnosing. The tear duct may also be flushed to clear obstruction. Place an e-collar (cone) on Mylo to prevent pawing or rubbing until he sees the doctor.

Hi and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Thank you for the pictures as well- poor little Rudy! Yes, you will need to take Rudy into see his veterinarian. Rudy is squinting and seems reluctant to open his right eye. He may have endured trauma or injury to his eye which may have resulted in a corneal abrasion or scratch which are quite painful and need special treatments in order to heal properly. Your veterinarian will examine the eye and will stain the eye to check for corneal injury. Rudy may need to go home with antibiotic eye medications or other medications as needed.
