My dog's eyes are shut after a hot shower. Did she burn her eyes?

It sounds like your pet Daisy has a very common situation here which is a chemical burn or scratch on her cornea (surface of her eye). This is common after being groomed because shampoo or condition can get on the eye and isn't washed off properly or promptly. Poor girl. I would recommend taking her to your local vet as soon as you can to get her eye examined, tested and treated. Hello there! While probably not an emergency (unless Dodi appears to have discharge or discomfort), I do recommend that she is seen by a vet. Broken blood vessels in the sclera (white part) of the eye are not entirely uncommon in pop-eyed dogs like the Havanese (usually from stress or irritation), however it usually happens in one eye at a time. Dodi is a young dog, and I would not expect any serious conditions, however it is always best to contact a vet when it comes to strange eye issues as if there is a problem, they can get worse quickly. The vet will want to check for conjunctivitis and foreign objects, though I would expect that Dodi would be acting uncomfortable if either of these were the case. It's very likely some shampoo got into her eye, try to gently rinse the eye with running water then try to leave it for a few hours to calm down. if within 4-6 hours you do not see any improvement in the eye condition you should then take her to your vet in order to get it checked and treated, she might need eye drops to reduce the irritation.

It looks like Denzel's third eyelids are sticking out. For some reason, her eyes are irritated but I can't diagnose why without seeing her in person. Any eye problem should be checked out by a vet promptly as leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. Please take her into a vet now.

I'm sorry to hear about your dog's eye. If the redness has resolved somewhat then it is likely from some irritation with the rain and shower, especially if your brother used shampoo. However, please monitor the eyes carefully and if he starts rubbing at his eyes, if the eyes start watering or he is holding them closed then please schedule a visit with your veterinarian. Eye irritation can develop into an ulcer on the cornea and these need to be treated quickly and aggressively.

If Bruno is favoring his eyes by squinting or pawing at them then yes I would be concerned that they may be irritated. The soap could have caused some damage to the cornea or simply just irritated the eye. If you took him to a vet, they could stain his eyes to ensure whether or not there was an ulcer on the eyes and whether he will need antibiotics drops. You could use over the counter artificial tears but I just worry that if there is actual damage to the eyes that they may not heal with just that. I hope he starts to feel better soon.

Corneal damage is sometimes visibly noticeable by a cloudiness or haziness over the surface of the eye. However, sometimes if the affected area is very small it will not create this appearance. The only way to determine the presence of damage corneal tissue with certainty is with a stain. Staining is placed in the eye and that subjected to a special spectrum of light that checks to see if the stain binds to the damaged portion of the cornea. This is typically a procedure that can be done at any veterinarian.
