I accidentally cut my dog's nail too short and it bled. Is she okay?

As long as she is healthy with no underlying clotting diseases, her nail should stop bleeding on its own within 10-15 minutes with pressure applied. You can use a paper towel or rag and hold it firmly against her nail for 5-10 minutes to apply pressure and staunch the bleeding. I do not recommend trying to bandage the foot - bandages can cause more harm than good sometimes. You can try to reduce her activity today by restricting her to one area of the house (preferably without carpet!) so that she cannot run around. I hope this is helpful - best of luck with Zena!

I perfectly understand your frustration but unfortunately these kind of things happen all the time and are more common than you may think. Usually no further treatment is needed unless discomfort 24hours after nail cut. I would recommend to monitor the nails in case of any swelling or redness or discharge which may represent signs of infection. She does need a nail trim which you can do with your groomer or veterinarian at your earliest convenience. Best of luck!

Hello. This is such a common injury in dogs. Veterinarians deal with this by cutting the nail at the break & then applying an antibiotic cream mixed with a little lidocaine to stop the pain. The foot stays bandaged for a couple of days until the sensitive tissue starts to heal. From here, the nail will begin to grow out & Jack will be back to his old self. Hi, The most important thing is that it clotted and the bleeding stopped. He should be fine and the nail will GROW. Just monitor the area so it clean and no signs of infection such as pus, swelling, redness and prevent the dog from licking/biting or bothered with the toe in case he start doing it
