Dog cried during nail trim, almost cut quick. Should I be concerned?

Hi, The most important thing is that it clotted and the bleeding stopped. He should be fine and the nail will GROW. Just monitor the area so it clean and no signs of infection such as pus, swelling, redness and prevent the dog from licking/biting or bothered with the toe in case he start doing it

Hello. This just looks like a bad scrape, but the skin actually looks pretty good. Just watch for any signs of bruising or pain ( he may limp or start licking the area ), but if he seems fine & unbothered by this, then the hair should grow back just fine. Flour is a great way to stop a quick from bleeding. Unfortunately, I've had to use that trick myself to get a quick to stop bleeding. When we hit the quick when trimming nails, the biggest problems are that it bleeds and it hurts. That blood can get underneath the layers of the nail (similar to when we have bleeding under our nails) which is probably why it is red. That may change to purple and look bruised in the next couple of days, but it will heal. The other thing you need to make sure when trimming Mona's nails in the future that you use treats or verbal praise to make sure she is comfortable for nail trims. Most kittens are pretty forgiving for nail trims, so don't worry about it, but make sure future nail trims are good experiences, so she doesn't start to dislike them. Congrats on your new kitten! Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Jack! Accidents happen and nail trims can be hard especially on pugs. They are the hardest breeds for nail trims, even at the Vet. If he is very squirmy and dislikes nail trims consider having it done at your Vet office and consider sedation. It may cost more but maybe we can avoid cutting the quick. Plus stressing out a pug is not a good idea. With that being said, If Jack is not limping, isn't excessively licking the nail and it isn't bleeding just keep the nail clean. If any of the above is happening then I would take him to the Vet for antibiotics, a bandage and pain medications. It should heal with out any complications for continued growth of the nail.
