My dog's dew claw was clipped too short and bled. Will he be okay?

I perfectly understand your frustration but unfortunately these kind of things happen all the time and are more common than you may think. Usually no further treatment is needed unless discomfort 24hours after nail cut. I would recommend to monitor the nails in case of any swelling or redness or discharge which may represent signs of infection. Hi, provided the quick does not get infected, the nail will gradually grow back. I think just cleaning it and making sure it does not get infected will be enough. If you should notice any oozing or swelling/inflammation of the area, it could mean that the nail bed is getting infected and it is best to have Jaxon checked over. Also try to prevent Jaxon licking the wound. Hope this helps !

If all you've done is clipped the quick and the bleeding is done, there is no need for a veterinary visit necessarily. If you want some anti inflammatories from the vet for pain you could consider going particularly if Jericho starts to limp or lick the paw consistently. Additionally, if he starts to lick the area repeatedly I would recommend getting him a cone to wear to prevent any self-mutilation. Hope this makes sense.

I think it would be best if you take him to the vet for a wound clean-up, and exam whether there is more than just a stripped nail. Your veterinarian will likely want to bandage the paw and give your dog pain medicine and an antibiotic so that the bacteria in that area cannot cause an infection.

I am sorry to hear about your concern for Scout. I cannot tell from these photos if the incision is starting to open. If you think the incision is opening or there is yellow or green oozing from the incision, you will need to bring Scout back to his vet to have the area examined. If there is a small amount of bleeding, it could be that Scout is just being too active and you should ensure he isn't licking the area (an e-collar can help with this) and confine him to a small area and only go outside on a leash to potty. IF there is a persistent dripping of blood then he needs an examination at his vet.
