My dog has a cough and eye discharge. Is it a cold? Home remedies?

Hi Shelly has God cold and hence makes a lot of sound as if clearing her throat, further because of cold there is a lot of white yellowish discharge from her eyes. Any home remedy for cold?

Hello, I'm sorry Shelly isn't feeling well. When we talk about a "cold" in people, typically that implies a viral upper respiratory infection. There is no specific treatment for a viral respiratory infection other than nursing care. However, Shelly's symptoms of clearing her throat with the discharge from her eyes could be something other than a viral respiratory infection - dogs don't get "colds" very often like people do, and I worry about the possibility of something more serious such as pneumonia, a tooth root abscess, or a heart condition, all of which could also cause either upper or lower respiratory congestion. If this has been going on more than a day or two, I recommend having Shelly seen by a vet. Your vet will do an exam, and will likely recommend chest x-rays if they have any concerns with the sound of her lungs or heart. They will then be able to offer specific therapies based on what is causing these symptoms. I hope this helps!

Hi. It sounds like Mayor has an upper respiratory infection. These can be caused by viruses, bacterial, or fungal infections. There isn't anything unfortunately from home that would cure it or treat it. That would have to come from your veterinarian. This evening you can close a small bathroom door, turn on shower as hot as possible, get the room very steamy/humid, and place him in that bathroom with the steam for 10 min 2-3 times a day. This isn't treating the infection, but helps break up mucous to make him more comfortable. Good luck.

My dog has clear nose discharge and snores terribly. Is it a cold?

I am sorry Snoopy is having this issue. It definitely can be a cold but there are other things it can be. It can be allergies or if it is one nostril that there is discharge it can be a growth. I recommend taking Snoopy to the veterinarian and having them listen to her to make sure there is nothing settled in her lungs and it is just an upper respiratory issue. My other dog caught a cold from new pup. How to treat at home?

I’m sorry to hear that your pups are sick! Most upper respiratory infections from the shelter are viral, but young newly adopted dogs are at greater risk for secondary bacterial infections Which is why they often get put on antibiotics. However, many otherwise healthy adult dogs will recover quickly without any antibiotics. I Ted to treat it like you would a cold in yourself. Fluids, Rest, and a little time as long as appetite is normal and acting fine otherwise . Hello, and thank you for your question. I'm sorry to hear that Toby has been unwell. It sounds like he may have a cold (i.e. kennel cough). Other possibilities include pneumonia, or heart issues. I would recommend taking Toby to the vet if his coughing and lethargy doesn't improve within the next 24 hours. In the meantime, keep up his food and water intake, and allow him plenty of opportunities to rest. If it is kennel cough, you'll want to keep him away from other dogs anyway as it is contagious. My dog has cold symptoms, wheezing, and reverse sneezing. Is it a URI?

Poor Baby. She likely has an upper respiratory infection. A lower airway infection (pneumonia) is possible also but typically pets are much sicker and have fluid sounds from the chest if this were the case. Upper respiratory infections in dogs are not like people colds, because they generally are caused by a bacterial infection which requires a short course of antibiotics to get rid of. Therefore, it's best if you get Baby seen by your local vet to be examined and prescribed medication. I would make it a point to get her seen within the next 24 hrs if at all possible, before her condition gets any worse. Don't be tempted to give her any over be counter cough medicine, because she has, what sounds like, a productive cough (coughing up fluid and phlegm) and therefore you don't want to suppress her cough. The vet will give her the exact medication she needs to get well again. I wish Baby a full and speedy recovery!
