My dog's corneal ulcer healed. When can she get a bath or grooming?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I would say about 5-7 days after the ointment has stopped and the ulcer is healed you can have your vet to the Schirmer Tear Test (STT) to see if Bella has dry eye. I hope this helps!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Gizmo! The cloudiness likely just indicated the edema in the cornea. That can go away quickly. Superficial (not deep) corneal ulcers heal in 5-7 days. Since you can still see the ulcer and since it was deep I do not think the ulcer itself is healed yet, just the surrounding cornea. Be sure to follow up as recommended by your Vet. I hope this helps and I wish Gizmo a speedy recovery!

I'm glad his corneal ulcer is healing! I would speak to the vet about how best to clean it and what to use on it because it's illegal for the experts at Pet Coach to recommend any drug without seeing the animal in person first. That's because doing so requires a veterinary client patient relationship which cannot be achieved via an internet forum.

Hi! Glad to hear that Bella's ulcer is resolving. As corneal ulcers heal, dogs may experience some itchiness or discomfort that makes them want to paw at their eyes even including the eye that is not affected. This is why it is always advised to keep the cone on until finishing therapy/resolution. Good luck! It seems like Bella is going in the right direction.

I am sorry to hear about Luna. Unfortunately every corneal ulcer progresses differently and we cannot really predict how rapidly they will heal, particularly without seeing the eye in person as photos of eyes are very difficult to interpret. Normally with corneal ulcers I like to recheck them in a week or earlier if I feel they are bad or the pet seems increasingly uncomfortable. Some ulcers will heal within a week while others take much longer and make require advanced treatments. I would recommend calling your vet to see if Luna should be rechecked and leaving her cone on until your vet has confirmed it is ok to take it off. Best of luck to you and Luna.

It sounds like your pet Daisy has a very common situation here which is a chemical burn or scratch on her cornea (surface of her eye). This is common after being groomed because shampoo or condition can get on the eye and isn't washed off properly or promptly. Poor girl. I would recommend taking her to your local vet as soon as you can to get her eye examined, tested and treated. Most pets with this condition recovery fully within 7 days time, as long as they receive treatment quickly. I hope that your pet Daisy resolves her eye issue soon! Best of luck and take care.

I do recommend a follow up but if she is no longer squinting and the cornea is clear, not cloudy, and the conjunctiva is not red or swollen then you are fine to finish the medication as directed and monitor her at home for problems.
