My dog's deep corneal ulcer cloudiness faded. Is it healing too fast?

The blue cloudiness is caused by swelling in the cornea from the ulcer. If the ulcer is treated and heals the cornea should become clear again. Sometimes there will be a small scar from the ulcer. If the eye looks like it’s getting worse please take Sky in for a recheck right away. Blue and cloudy discoloration could be due to an inflammation and accumulation of fluid in the anterior chamber of the eye. It is impossible for us to tell whether the eye is improving or not as a physical examination would be needed. After surgery a certain grade of inflammation is expected anyway. I would recommend a check up to make sure there is no deterioration of the corneal indolent ulcer.

Poor girl. In uncomplicated cases of an eye ulcer the pet normally starts to improve significantly after 7 days. I would have her seen again my your vet soon. The eye ulcer this time around may be deeper or perhaps even resistant to the antibiotic. Sometimes pets also require surgical procedures on the eye to get the ulcer to heal. I do recommend a follow up but if she is no longer squinting and the cornea is clear, not cloudy, and the conjunctiva is not red or swollen then you are fine to finish the medication as directed and monitor her at home for problems. That depends. A corneal lesion should be healed by 50%+ within 3 days for normal healing. The total surface area needs to be taken into account to gauge the healing. The best person to answer this question is the veterinarian who is caring for Taurie. They know how big and how deep the ulcer is. Sometimes non healing ulcers need a grid keratotomy and/or plasma drops (though this is debated). I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If Brian is under Veterinary care and is receiving antibiotic eye drops prescribed by your vet then the ulcer should heal. Most uncomplicated ulcers heal with in 5-7 days. You should recheck with your Vet to be sure it has healed. I do not think cold air caused the ulcer or will make it worse. Dust, running into branches or other plant material may have caused the original injury so I would leash walk him and don't leave him outdoors long unsupervised until the eye has healed. From the pictures you have posted, it looks like handsome Simba could be suffering with keratitis which might be secondary to the presence of the ulcer. He might need to have other antinflammatory drops into the eye. It is best to wait for your appt on Sat and see when the eye is stained with fluorescin if the ulcer has gone completely and take it from there. Good luck !
