Is it okay to deworm a dog that is still feeling sick or lethargic?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male

My dog was recently diagnosed with food poisoning. He was given an antidote and three other injections after which he has stopped vomiting and loose stools. Now after another three injections our vet has suggested to give him deworming tab. He is still lethargic.. Can I give him the deworming tab now as our pet trainer has told that deworming tab should not be given when the dog is sick.. Now he is little interested in taking food. Kindly suggest what I should do

I would not deworm him when he is not feeling well unless you have a specific diagnosis that he needs the dewormer (example: a fecal test was run and you know he has roundworms). I would wait until he is feeling better.
