I would not deworm him when he is not feeling well unless you have a specific diagnosis that he needs the dewormer (example: a fecal test was run and you know he has roundworms). I would wait until he is feeling better.

Cocoa looks like she has a severe respiratory infection as well and would benefit from a prolonged course of antibiotics for her severe nasal discharge. Assuming that the dewormer given was appropriate for the types of worms/intestinal parasites that she has, she would typically need to be dewormed again in 2 weeks and have a reaper exam to confirm that she is negative for intestinal parasites in approximately 3 weeks. Pyrantel is effective against roundworms, hookworms and whipworms. For Tapeworms, she would need praziquantel or a broad spectrum dewormer such as Drontal Plus. For Giardia she would need metronidazole and Panacur and for coccidia, Albon is the medication of choice. All of these parasites are zoonotic and contagious to people and other dogs as well. Diligent handwashing after handling is recommended, as is diligent environmental cleanup as she can easily become re-infected if she walks back over stool left in the backyard and licks her paws. Congrats on your new addition. Intestinal parasites (worms) are common in puppies. They can get them from other pups, the environment or even directly from mom. Since he is new to you, have Archie physically examined by your veterinarian within 72 hours of arriving home to confirm good health or to diagnose and treat any pre-existing conditions. Submit a stool sample to diagnose intestinal parasites. He may need to be dewormed now and in 2 weeks. A third deworming in 4 weeks may completely clear any infection. Once he is feeling better, he can begin or resume his vaccinations.

Although rare, intussusception (essentially intestines that telescope into one another) can occur in cases of parasitism, which can cause vomiting, lethargy and inappetence. At this point, monitor Kai for changes tonight and try to tempt him to eat with boiled white meat chicken and white rice as a bland diet. If he is still lethargic and not eating by the morning, he should be examined by his vet. The greatest likelihood is simply that his body is working to expel the roundworms.

It is not typical to have side effects a week after being treated for tapeworms so there could be something else going on. If he hasn't had a stool sample tested for parasites then you should take a sample to your vet for testing. He could have additional parasites and need a different dewormer. Continue to monitor him and if his signs continue or progress then he should be examined by a vet to determine the cause and treat.
