Cat got Epi-Otic in nose/mouth/eye. What symptoms should I watch for?

Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Epi-Otic is not dangerous when licked or ingested. However, if it got into Ballball eyes and if he is showing signs of discomfort (rubbing on the eye, squinting) the eye should be rinsed with clean, fresh water.

If she is having upper respiratory signs associated with the inhalation of the water and the milk such as changes in breathing, difficulty swallowing, nasal discharge, weakness, loss of appetite or other changes, please take her into see her veterinarian soon as she may have developed pneumonia from aspirating the liquids. She may need a chest x-ray to confirm this and may need to be on antibiotics for a while. If she appears normal otherwise, just keep an eye on herald take her in if any of the above signs are witnessed.

Hi and thanks for posting! The Bio-Groom ear mite cleanser does contain Pyrethrins which can be toxic if consumed in large amounts. While licking a very small amount of it from his paw may not be enough to cause a serious problem, I would still keep on the look out. Concerning signs to watch out for are tremors, seizures, hypersalivation, panting, vomiting, and diarrhea. If you see any of these signs, I would recommend seeing a veterinarian right away.

Hi there and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If Neptune's eye is red and he is pawing at his face or near his eye, it may be infected and bothering him. I would recommend Neptune see his veterinarian soon for an eye exam. Your veterinarian may want do a few tests of his eye to check for underlying conditions such as scratch on the cornea or other issues. He may go home with antibiotic drops for his eye or other medications as needed. I hope this helps!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Pea! It should right itself if that is why she is congested today. Cats can be very dramatic with liquid medication and some may have gotten up her nose. Aspirating in to the lungs would be more serious. As long as she only sounds congested in her throat/nose area she should be ok. Watch for loss of appetite, lethargy or yellow-green discharge from the nose. If any of those symptoms occur she should see your Vet. Have a great day!

It is really hard to tell by the pictures but I think one of her pupils is small and the other is dilated. This is called horners syndrome. Sometimes we are unaware of the cause but it can be linked to ear infections. I would recommend taking Lily to the vet to make sure she does not have an inner ear infection. It is possible she has an ear infection (inner or outer) with ear mites. Horners syndrome usually resolves with time but a ear infection would need antibiotics.

It is a long way from the nose to the lungs and there are a lot of c"curves and bends" for a foreign body to negotiate before it can reach the lungs. If your kitty sneezed and coughed and then has no more incidents of sneezing or coughing or trying to get rid of something in his respiratory tract, then the initial sneeze and cough to care of the problem. So unless he appears to try and get rid of something through his nose or has problems breathing, you do not have to worry . He should be fine.
