Kitten got water in nose during bath, now sneezing when feeding. Help!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! The most common reason for sneezing and clear nasal discharge in kittens are viral infections. The kitten usually gets better in 7-14 days. If the sneezing gets worse or the nasal discharge becomes cloudy, yellow or green Mika may have developed a secondary bacterial infection. She would then need antibiotics. Canned cat food has a lot of water in it. You can add water to the canned food to increase water intake. If she is doing well she is likely getting all the water she needs. Especially if she is producing urine regularly. I hope this helps and I wish you and Mika the best!

If the discharge from his nose is clear then you can just monitor him. Hopefully he can clear the viral infection. If he is lethargic, not eating, and/or the discharge changes to yellow or green he would need to see a Veterinarian for antibiotics. I would clear his nose a couple of times a day and you can keep him in a steamy bathroom twice a day for 10-15 mins. Be sure that you start Pongkoys kitten vaccinations in the next 1-2 weeks. She probably has an upper respiratory infection or cold. Please keep her warm and feed her often. As long as she’s eating she should recover in a week or two. If she stops eating you should take her in for an exam and treatment. They may need to treat her with antibiotics and fluids. This is common in kittens and they usually recover fine. While you can give milk, it is not necessary if she is on a good diet. The sneezing may be due to an allergy to something in the environment or an upper respiratory infection so if this continues, it would be best to have her evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. It is normal for the their noses to get in to the food/fluid when they are learning to drink and eat from a bowl. Either the formula tickled his nose or he sucked a little in to his nose. Sneezing is the natural way to remove the milk. I wouldn't worry too much! Good luck with everything!
