Hermit crabs are sociable and active pets that require specific care. When you’re considering a crustacean for a pet, one of the first things you’ll do is create an inviting hermit crab habitat. Help your new pet feel welcome by setting up a comfortable environment for them before they arrive home.
The ideal home for a hermit crab is in a glass terrarium or aquarium with a screened lid. Your hermit crab terrarium should be large enough to provide space for a couple of friends and room to roam. A 10-gallon hermit crab tank is usually sufficient for up to three of your small pets. A wire hermit crab cage is not recommended for your shelled pet’s safety as they can’t provide the necessary humidity to feel most comfortable.
Your hermit crab tank setup should contain a few things to help your little shelled friend thrive in their new environment. You can pick up a hermit crab starter kit from Petco containing most of the necessities for your tank or build your own. Be sure to include in your pet’s habitat:
Keep your hermit crab cage clean by thoroughly disinfecting the habitat once a week. For hermit crab clean up and odor control, remove your pet, place it in a secure area and scrub the tank with a 3% bleach solution. Rinse everything thoroughly with water to remove any trace of cleaning solution, then dry completely and replace the substrate.
To maintain the humidity of your hermit crab habitat or terrarium, keep two water bowls available to your hermit crab. One large bowl of non-chlorinated water for them to get water, soak and add humidity. The second bowl should supply saltwater for your pet. You can also purchase additional accessories for hermit crab humidity control.

SO i am thinking about getting a leopard gecko, but i am not spending a ridiculous amount of money on a cage so i am using a plastic laundrey hamper that seems about maybe 10 gallons and i am setting up little hiddy spots and stuff but i dont know wha tbeedding i should use and how much light they need please hep :)
I found my hermit crab shell in my tank I think it’s dead but then I’ve seen legs inside of the tank and they moved what should I do oh an I took out the other shell
I am about to get a crested gecko and have done lots of research, but am nervous I'll kill my crestie. You see, lots of people have different opinions about additional lighting. 1 breeder said a heat lamp killed many of his crested geckos, while another breeder said it killed her geckos when they DIDNT have a heat lamp. Should I get a heat lamp? (My tank is a 12 by 12 by 18, of that helps at all) Also, should that size tank be good for 1 crested gecko for his entire life?
She always sleeping or out of sight . I rarely see her out and when I do it’s been early in the mornings or I’ll hear her on her wheel a few minutes at night.. she lives in a 40 gallon breeder tank that’s got great venalation and chew toys, treats, sand bath, etc everything she could ever want!. Any idea why she isn’t very active? Any way I can help her to be more active?
Do you treat tortoises
I have a fancy bearded dragon that is almost one now. When I first purchased him we got a 10 gal tank and he seems to be getting bigger. Do you think if I purchase a 40 gal tank he’ll be set for a year or two? Thank you.
I have 2 Chinese golden thread turtles. Slightly bigger than hatching size. I don't know the max height of water to add. Can you help me
I am not sure of my turtles age. I have had her for 3 yrs. Dosen't seem to be growing and I'm concerned about the underneath shell. Looks like it is splitting. She is in a 10 gal tank always by the window for sun. Is the tank to small? She eats well, super worms, tomatoes, grapes and strawberries some lettuce.
I have a new Ball Python that eats allright, but it stays in it's hide all the time, day and night. I keep the temperature gradient consistant. The hide is the black square with a hole in one end. I feed him in a separate clear habitat. The substrate is aspen bedding wich, consists of perfectly square 3mm pieces that stick to every thing it comes in contact withincluding the snake wich is covered. I have to mist more than seven times a day to keep the humidity above 40%. One quart at a time.
Hi, my hatchling red foot tortoise has a problem with keeping his eyes open for very long, he hasn't been eating as much as usual and when he closes his eyes I have to soak him in water to get him to open them back up. When his eyes close it almost looks like they are crusty. I have a cypress mulch and jungle mix substrate in his cage which is about 4 inches at the highest and 1 inch in his basking are but it's kept well watered. Thank You!
I adopted a sick Leopard Gecko from a local pet store. The pet store doesn't take good care of Leopard Geckos. They have dried Mealworms, no calcium, no humidity, and their all crowed in one hide. My Leopard Gecko Geo wasn't eating Mealworms or Crickets. She is underweight and her tail is skinny. I started to get concerned so I started syringe feeding her daily with ReptaBoost. Today I saw her throw up some of the mix. It looks like she was struggling to regurgitate. Also the humidity is high.
Is there a type of bird cage for parakeets. We have two that are in a basic counter top cage but I wanted to get a bigger one. I was told not to get one with dome top. Is this correct?
