DONT BUY FOR HERMIES

You can buy a 20-gallon tank for less than this crab prison and put 2 HAPPY crabs in there. Every crab should have 10 gallons of space (NOT 1 GALLON) and you need 2 so 20 gallons is fine. Hermit crabs love to climb and need deep substrate. Don't buy them from pet stores because they are wild caught. Instead look on craigslist or Facebook marketplace. I'm sure there are always some for sale.

You are first WRONG. A 5 gallon absolutely minim. 10 gal per crab recommended. If it was 5 gallons big enough for one crab you would have no room for anything else and you need 10 gal min since you need two crabs. This also will not hold in humidity. On that page it also says to feed pellets if you did you research you will know that pellets are bad for crabs. Case closed. This is good tanks down here.

it's a miracle my crab is still alive

So this was my first hermit crab's first tank, and the fact that I bought it in the first place shows you how little I actually knew about them when I got one. It is so small, that all I could fit was the hut, food dish, freshwater dish, a sponge, and a little climbing branch. I couldn't even fit a saltwater dish (which is a necessity). It's also not big enough to have deep enough substrate (also a necessity). My crab is also very very small, but it was apparent there was no room for a friend (again...necessity). Other reviews have gone into greater depth into what they need and why this set up is so wrong, and they did a much better job than I would. What I will give this tank is that I actually took it through an airport with everything in it (which wasn't a lot but still added weight) and despite having no faith in the little plastic handles it actually did really well. So the quality on that regard isn't actually bad. Also despite me thinking the little hut is super ugly, my crab actually really liked it. I think the small opening made him feel safe. He also loved climbing it in every way he could figure out. I even had it in his 10 gallon for a while. Overall, this is not a good home for even one crab, and anyone who is saying that it's perfectly fine is abusing their pet, and clearly didn't care enough to put the time and effort into researching the needs of the animal whose life they were putting in their own hands. They can live up to 70 years, yours living 1 year is nothing to be proud of. Myself included, and while my crab survived (not thrived...just survived) and he is happy and in good conditions now, I'm ashamed to have put him in something like this. It is acceptable as a travel or isolation tank, or something to put your crabs in when you're cleaning their real home.

Crab abuse!!

I dont know why people think that habitats like this is even considerable this critter carrier is not suitable for even one hermit crab fact is that a hermit crab needs freinds or it will die from depression and they need a lot of crawl and climbing space it's not like you would want to live in this if you were a hermit crab trust me when I say that I did my research and do not believe everything you see on google like per hermit crab need 2.5 gallons of space well no per hermit crab needs 10 gallons of space to truly thrive and be happy right now I have three hermies in a ten gallon they are about to go into a 40 pretty soon so they will be more then comfortable and the blend of substrate you should do is a 50/50 mix of play sand which you can get at your local Lowe's and a mix of compressed coconut fiber to hold the humidity and make it more natural for the hermit crabs also they need fresh chlorinated water and salt water preferably a mix of declorinated salt water and instant oceon to make a perfect salt water mix for your hermies also I have a channel about to be made called Aaron's World and Animal Tips go check bbn it out when ivebpisted it so yeah this is not suitable for hermit crabs at ALL!!.

First of all if anyone does there research on hermit crabs you'll realize immediately that this product in no way accommodates their needs. If you buy this to be your hermit crabs home it will die within 2 years. So please do your hermit crab a favor and avoid this.

DO NOT USE FOR HERMIT CRABS

stephanielynn97

Any type of container like these are too small for hermit crabs! They need 10 gallons at least per crab!! They need sand to molt in not gravel. Everything about this is animal abuse. You wouldn't keep a dog trapped in a small cage all of its life, why do people treat hermit crabs like this when their natural habitats are entire beaches!?!

No, I do not recommend this product.

NOT HERMIT CRAB FRIENDLY

Most people do not know how to properly provide for hermit crabs. This container is NOT suitable for hermit crabs. Hermit crabs require a much larger space along with at least six to eight inches of substrate for them to bury themselves in order to molt. This size cage will not allow for that. They also require bathing pools one salt water and one chlorinated water both need to be deep enough for the crabs to completely submerge in. Hermit crabs require much care and little to no handling. For those who are interested in hermit crabs or have some please check out the Hermit Crab Owners on facebook. This is for the best interest of the crabs.
