This sand killed my crabs mafia style 😫

This kit killed four out of six baby hermit crabs within twenty four hours of being on it. These babies survived four airplane rides without problems, and upon walking on the sand they immediately became cemented into their shells after getting drinks of water. I am horrified that this is being sold.This sand is straight up dangerous. After doing mistings as recommended I now have a container of cement that looks like sand. DO NOT BUY THIS!!!

This sand killed my tiny crabs

I bought this to house some baby hermit crabs... The sand turned into cement immediately after misting and killed four of the six baby hermit crabs in less than 24 hours. All were cemmented in place likely from being damp when going into what was then loose sand. It is now like concrete and i need to figure out how to remove, and I'm heartbroken that these poor babies died. AWFUL

None of these things are needed or safe for hermit crabs. Save your money and visit https://lhcos.org/ for the correct information.
Hermit crabs can live up to 40 years with proper care. Everything I bought in this kit is incorrect unfortunately and now I wasted money and time because I trusted the pet stores guidance.

We bought this for my son and it set him up without any problems. Our only "issue" was that we used a 5 gallon tank and the substrate type material that expands with water wasn't quite enough. We ended up buying a little more the next day.

I bought this for a new hermit crab. Since I already had a tank, this was much cheaper than the tank starter kit. It was still a bit pricey for what it was, but buying everything individually would have been more. I was able to use the online price in my store to get savings. All in all it was about $40 for the project.

How much Calcium Sand/Coconut Fibre does this kit come with? How big of a tank would be perfect for this amount? Answer quickly! Thanks! ~TheRatDragon
- calcium sand is not good for hermit crabs. i recommend watching many videos from long-time owners about hermit crabs, because they can teach a lot of things about hermit crabs. for one, i learned that calcium sand can clog up the hermit crabs shells when it dries, and can prevent them from properly molting.

I brought a tank that is 10-gallons and has a kit like this one for hermit crabs, do you crab lovers think I can fit 4 blue leged hermit crabs in this ? A fast answer will be appreciated!:)

- Best thing to do, is to leave it alone. If it was drinking and eating lots before it went under it will most likely be a successful molt. Depending on how big your hermie is, if it takes longer than 5-6 weeks max you might want to make sure it is not dead. Also if you have other crabs you might want to remove the other crabs as so they don't disturb the freshly molted meaty smelling fella!! (im serious!) Hope this helps : )
