Is a dark spot on my bearded dragon's lip normal or concerning?

Hello, i have a roughly 4 month old bearded dragon, named terra. I noticed she has a dark spot on the lip on oneside. It does not seem to have grown at all. She eat well and moved around in her tank amd is handled and allowed to run around and explore which she does. Her basking area is between 100 to 110. Depends on where she chooses to lay on her rock. But anyways. I scrubbed her gently around the lip and a little but liften off cause the was a slight greyish thing came off a bit.

Thanks for reaching out about Terra. Reptiles can often use melanin pigments as a form of the immune system. A minor wound such as scratch could of being the original trauma, Terra's immune system moved melanin to the area as a way to fight an infection. If the lesion gets bigger, a veterinary visit is recommended.

Thanks for reaching out about Regin. The black skin could be either a sign of skin trauma or skin necrosis. Reptiles have black pigments (melanin) that is part of the immune system, that responds to infections and inflammation. If the skin has lost the blood supply and died, it could turn black also. You should contact your veterinarian for a recheck. If there is a persistant infeciton, antibiotics are warranted again. Good luck.

Why does my Chinese Water Dragon have brown/black spots on its skin?

Thanks for reaching out about Rango and including a photo. By the picture, could these be on the surface of the skin, do they scratch off? Melanin pigments are often the result of a trauma to the skin. This darkening will often go away once the insult if removed. Insults could be sharp bark, mites, infections and more. If the problems progresses, a veterinary visit is recommended to assess and provide a diagnostic/treatment plan. Try giving a bath in clean water. Good luck.

This may be an indication of infection (namely mouth rot) or a symptom of trauma. Mojo should be examined by your veterinarian or a vet experienced in treating reptiles to make the diagnosis. Any treatment will depend on the diagnosis. In the meantime, keep him warm, hydrated and as stress free as possible. Make sure he continues to eat regularly. Have him seen as soon as you can get an appointment.
