My senior dog has a swollen eye with a mucus bubble. What should I do?

This can be caused from trauma, insect bites, allergic reactions, etc. If this does not resolve after 24 hours, I would have Charlie examined by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. Hi, thabks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Princess! The pictures are blurry but I am very concerned about her left eye. I'm worried about proptosis (eye has popped out of the socket) or glaucoma. Both are emergencies. I recommend that you take Princess to the emergency room. Good luck!

Any eye problem is considered an emergency because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. I would take him into a vet immediately to get treated. Best of luck.

At least in these pictures, his cornea appears affected. I highly recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Thank you for submitting your question regarding Cosmo. I recommend that he sees a veterinarian today. I worry that he has an abscess. A tooth root abscess is common in that area of a dog's face. This can occur when there is damage to a large tooth in the back of the mouth. The root can become infected causing a swelling below the eye. Of course, there could be another cause. The veterinarian will examine him and may recommend anesthesia to determine if thisbis the case. The teeth can be cleaned and x-rays taken to look for an abscess. If present, the tooth will likely be extracted. I hope this information helps!
