Accidentally sprayed my puppy with flea spray. What should I do?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

I’m a new dog owner, and accidentally sprayed my 8 week old pup with flea spray. What should I do? He seems ok but I’m nervous.

Hello. You should immediately wash your puppy to remove as much of the spray as possible. Use warm water and dish soap. Avoid getting soap in his eyes and water in his ears. Be sure to rinse him thoroughly and then towel dry and make sure he stays warm until he is fully dry. Watch for issues over the next 24 hours which could include hypersalivation, twitching or tremors, vomiting, wobbliness. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach
