My puppy wiggled, Frontline Plus got on his fur. What should I do?

Hello there! Once you remove the Seresto collar, you can safely use the Frontline Plus topical. You do not need to wait and you do not need to give Lucy a bath first with the Dawn dish soap. Great question!

Unfortunately you cannot use topical medications that close together. Your best bet here is to try washing off the product immediately with Dish dawn detergent, and then to reapply the newer medication in 2 weeks. In the meantiime you can give Boogie a Capstar just about as often as you need to to rid fleas immediately after seeing them. You can purchase a Capstar at any pet store that carries this brand. This is not a preventative but it is a flea ridder that works fast (witihin 1 hr!). I hope that you are able to give Boogie some relief following his intense flea infestation. You definitely want to give him a calming aloe based or oatmeal based bath right after the Dawn bath, and a soothing conditoner from your local pet store can also be helpful. It is safe to reapply the Frontline now, but in my experience, it doesn't have great flea protection. You may have better luck with Advantage products or a Seresto collar. The best flea protection is the prescription oral flea preventatives, like Bravecto or Nexgard.

Dogs are not supposed to get wet for at least 24 hours after application of a topical flea medication, and more than likely it was washed off during the bath. You can reapply the flea treatment, and I would give them Capstar given you have seen fleas. It's a one time pill that starts killing fleas within 30 minutes, and it's safe to be given at the same time as the spot on treatment. Just as a note, I would not recommend using Frontline. In my experience (and from the experience of many colleagues), there is a resistance to Frontline, and you may not get the best results from it. I recommend using Advantage or Revolution instead. You will also have to disinfect the environment. Wash their bedding in hot soapy water, and vacuum the furniture and carpet surfaces. You can use a spray to kill fleas in the house, such as Indorex, or a flea bomb would work well to kill the fleas in the home.

The active ingredients in Frontline Plus are rather safe, so I would not be worried about any toxic effects this long after you applied the previous dose. Considering the bathing likely did remove a fair amount of the previous solution and you are seeing fleas, it's safe to say that Maddie will need some extra protection. The manufacturer recommends not bathing until 48 hours after applying Frontline, but I always advise not to give a bath one week after applying topical medications like Frontline to be safe. Fleas can be frustrating to manage! Since you have already applied Frontline to Milo, consider also giving him a tablet of Capstar. This medication can be found in most pet stores and kills adult fleas in about 30-60 minutes. The Frontline will then be effective for preventing fleas for the rest of the month.
