Why is my puppy peeing so much after mushroom treatment and IV fluids?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I am concerned that because he vomited so many times and had diarrhea, he could be very dehydrated. Also, mushrooms can result in liver toxicity in dogs that tends to be significant. Even if he vomited some of it, there is still likely some left in his system. I think it would be best to have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check some basic lab work to check for signs of liver toxicity and treat accordingly. Good luck and have a great day!

If he received a lot of IV fluids then it may be him passing the excess. This can also be a side effect of any steroids if he received that while getting treatment. It may be a sign if something else going on such as a kidney, bladder or blood sugar problem. It if continues then it is best to have him rechecked to see what is changing

That is unusual to see excessive urination two days later. I recommend to call his veterinarian and tell them what you are seeing at home. They will likely recommend to recheck Harvey to make sure he’s not having some sort of reaction or a concurrent disease state. Some medications for treating other issues, such as steroids, can cause an increase in urination, so if Frostbite is on any of these medications for the yeast infection, seeing if increased urination is a side effect of them is a good step as well. If it is, talking with your vet to see if changing his medications or the dosage may be a good idea. Issues such as urinary tract infections or even metabolic diseases can cause excessive urination as well. Bringing Frostbite back to your vet along with a sample of his urine may help determine if this is the case. Your vet can test the urine and may recommend bloodwork to rule out any metabolic problems.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Torres! What an ordeal! With out knowing what medication he was given by your Vet I am not sure how to guide you. But when dogs spend the night at the hospital they rarely sleep well. Some dogs are very stressed and stand, bark and cry the ENTIRE time. I always tell owners, especially with older dogs, that when they go home they likely will be exhausted and sleep soundly for 12-24 hours. That in combinations with a medication that causes drowsiness is likely what is hitting Torres so hard. Also when older dogs are on IV fluids they produce more urine and that may cause dripping if he is so exhausted. My recommendation is to see how 12 hours+ at home play out. If he is still excessively tired and won't eat or drink then I would call your Vet to discuss and consider a recheck. I hope this helps and I wish Torres a speedy recovery!

Hi there! It sounds like little Woody needs to visit the vet. Frequent urination can indicate a urinary tract infection (UTI). When bacteria develop in the bladder, it inflames the urethra (the tube out which a male dog urinates), and causes a dog to feel like he has to pee all the time. I would be even more suspicious of this if he has little urine coming out when he's trying to urinate. A UTI is probably not an emergency at this point, but it is likely to be very uncomfortable if this is the case. While very unlikely at this age, it is possible for the urethra to swell so much that it blocks the passage of urine, which quickly becomes a life-threatening situation. I strongly suggest bringing Woody to the vet ASAP if the frequent urination continues. In the meantime, make sure he has access to plenty of water to keep the bladder and kidneys flushed out. There isn't much that you can do for him at home safely aside from this. Do be on the lookout for blood in the urine, as this is another indicator of a UTI. Raisins have the potential to cause kidney failure which causes the dog to act lethargic, not eat, maybe vomit and likely drink and urinate more. If your puppy isn’t doing any of those things I doubt the raisin has anything to do with it. He may have a urinary tract infection or crystals in his urine. I recommend making an appointment with your Vet for tomorrow and bring a irons sample. I good this helps and I wish you the best!
