Why is my dog peeing hourly and whining after ear infection?

Even though it’s only happening at night, Fiddle still might have a urinary tract infection or a problem causing increased thirst that leads to increased urination (infections, kidney disease and diabetes would be a few of these diseases). I would recommend seeing your vet - they would probably recommend checking a urine sample to start.

Hi there! It sounds like little Woody needs to visit the vet. Frequent urination can indicate a urinary tract infection (UTI). When bacteria develop in the bladder, it inflames the urethra (the tube out which a male dog urinates), and causes a dog to feel like he has to pee all the time. I would be even more suspicious of this if he has little urine coming out when he's trying to urinate. A UTI is probably not an emergency at this point, but it is likely to be very uncomfortable if this is the case. While very unlikely at this age, it is possible for the urethra to swell so much that it blocks the passage of urine, which quickly becomes a life-threatening situation. I strongly suggest bringing Woody to the vet ASAP if the frequent urination continues. In the meantime, make sure he has access to plenty of water to keep the bladder and kidneys flushed out. There isn't much that you can do for him at home safely aside from this. Do be on the lookout for blood in the urine, as this is another indicator of a UTI. The anti-fever shot was likely a steroid/anti-inflammatory injection which typically has side effects of increasing thirst and peeing. This may persist for another 1-3 days. If she continues to have to pee in the middle of the night after this time, consulting with your veterinarian is recommended as he/she may recommend bloodwork to further characterize whether or not she has persistent signs of an infection or kidney issues which can cause increased drinking and peeing as well. I'm sorry Fiddle ate a toxic mushroom, but good on you for taking him into the vet right away! Given that he had both an IV and sub-q fluids, it could be these fluids are what is causing him to have to urinate so much. I would keep an eye on him for now, and if he continues to have problems with this excessive urination in the morning, I would give the vet a call to see if they want you to bring him in.

He may have a urinary tract infection if it has a foul odor and he is urinating more than once every hour. If that is the case then a brief exam and urinalysis through your vet should be able to detect the problem. If he does have an uncomplicated case of a UTI then a short course of antibiotics can resolve the problem. Best wishes and take care.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Riley's had a big week! He could have some inflammation from the neuter or a brief lapse in house training from the stress of the surgery and anesthesia. He could also have a urinary tract infection. I recommend calling your Vet Monday and see if you can drop off a urine sample. They can test the urine for infection. If he has a urinary tract infection then they can prescribe antibiotics. If hes doesn't have an infection ask if they can prescribe and anti-inflammatory, if he isn't on one already from his neuter, in cause it's just some inflammation. My first concern with going that much would be a urinary tract infection. Kidney disease and diabetes can also cause increased urination. There may have been a recent dog walking the same path and Birdie may have been marking. Without seeing her it’s hard to say. To be sure I recommend taking Birdie to a vet for an exam and to test her urine for problems. You could also continue to monitor her. If she continues to urinate frequently at home, you notice a change in her appetite, drinking habits, or lethargy then I would see a vet. Good luck and kisses to Birdie!
