My puppy jumped off the couch and now her paw shakes. Is this normal?

Shaking is a general sign and can be seen with several things that go from just being cold or nervous to being an indication of pain or discomfort. If he is otherwise fine, then it would be ok to monitor him for now. However, if at any point he appears to be in discomfort or stops eating or showing any other concerning symptoms, it may be best to have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment. Lily is adorable! Congratulations on your new puppy! I know how difficult it is to try to keep a puppy from being crazy. I certainly cannot guarantee that she won't hurt herself jumping off something, but our biggest concerns for puppies are repetitive pounding (such as running on concrete for long distances) damaging the growth plates and jumping down from unreasonable distances (such as off the deck). Relatively small jumps (such as from the bed or couch) are less likely to be a problem. The changes you are noticing in her legs are likely due to her growing so quickly which can make their legs look abnormal. The shaking can be from muscle fatigue if it is occurring after she has been active. If you notice any limping or an abnormal gait, I would recommend having her evaluated by your veterinarian. Otherwise, continue to try to train her be kind to her body, but know that she is a puppy and there is a limit as to what we can control. Good luck! And congrats again on your addition! Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I know you feel bad! We see this happen a lot, puppies and kittens are very squirmy! I would say that 98% of the time the puppies are fine. If she is walking well and not limping, is playing and eating I think she falls in to the category! She still may be a bit sore and that is why her tail isn't wagging. I would watch her closely and I bet she will be 100% very soon! I hope this helps and good luck!

It is possible that he could have sustained a minor soft tissue injury, but as long as he is otherwise acting normally - eating/drinking/urinating/defecating - and not showing any signs of lameness/limping, he should be OK! She’s adorable! Shivering can be a sign of discomfort. She will probably be sore and bruised from the fall so I’m not overly concerned about that. You may want to wake her to make sure she’s acting normal, and I would give her something to eat to make sure she’s able to eat normally. Luckily puppies are very resilient and usually heal quickly from minor injuries. Please take her in right away for treatment if she’s unable to eat, the bump enlarges, or she doesn’t act normally. Hello, congratulations on you new puppy. Its likely he was just having itchiness and there by scratching. After scratching, some dogs will shake their paws normally and you should not worry about it. If Chico has more severe or persistent trembling/shaking then have him seen sooner. Hope this helps and best of luck.

A very common cause of shaking and acting "off" in dogs is neck or back pain, often due to a pinched nerve or herniated disc. This could have occurred when Faizy jumped off the couch today. Or, she could have abdominal pain, or some other type of injury that isn't visible from the outside. If she is eating and drinking normally and acting okay otherwise, you could opt to restrict her exercise tonight and monitor her to see if the problem resolves by morning. If not, I would recommend taking her to the vet tomorrow for an exam - he/she can do x-rays or other testing if needed to help determine the problem and get her started on appropriate treatment.
