Why is my Pomeranian shaking and acting off after a couch jump?

Poor Belle! It sounds like she injured herself when she jumped off the couch, and she could have hurt her back, hips, or back legs. It is concerning she is not moving, and that tells me she is likely in a lot of pain. Because of that, I advise you to take her into a vet today. You do not want her to stay in pain, and unfortunately you cannot give her any human pain medications. Many are toxic to dogs, and can be fatal if given. It could still be pain associated with a leg even if nothing seems wrong with them. I recommend that you have Pari evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Likely diagnostics include radiographs. Treatment would be based on findings. At the very least they can prescribe pain control medications to make Pari feel better. This is very painful and can cause shaking, panting and a reluctance to jump. Her veterinarian can detect this on her exam or another problem if that may be the case. In the meantime, keep her quiet. Hello, thank you for your question. These symptoms could be indicative of many different underlying problems. Shivering/shaking can be a sign of pain in dogs. Alternatively, it is possible that your dog is having a seizure like event. If he is otherwise acting normal and these events are infrequent you could continue to monitor him. Alternatively, if you are concerned you could have him evaluated by your veterinarian. They will examine him and look for any sources of pain. It might be helpful to try and video one of these events if it happens again, since this could help your veterinarian exactly what is going on. Hope this helps!

Poor Phoebe! Shaking like this is a common sign of pain in dogs, especially when there is no other obvious reason (such as fear or cold) for her to be doing this. Many dogs who have back pain due to a herniated disc or other problem act very much like this, so this would be my first suspicion based on your description. She could also be uncomfortable due to abdominal pain, or some other injury that is not visible from the outside. I would recommend taking her to the vet for an exam today if possible - he/she can do x-rays or other testing if needed to help determine the problem and get her started on appropriate treatment.

I'm sorry to hear that Charlie isn't feeling well. His behavior certainly doesn't normal for him. I would recommend that he sees his veterinarian. It is not uncommon for small breed dogs to experience back or neck pain. The pain can be intense. Sign in the dog are usually a reluctance to jump on furniture, refusal to do stairs, shaking and hesitant to move. In worst case scenarios, some dogs was will experience neurologic problems such as weakness or paralysis of the limbs. Charlie will need to see his veterinarian to know if this is what is causing his symptoms verses something else. In the meantime, keep him quiet and encourage him to eat and drink. Lily is adorable! Congratulations on your new puppy! I know how difficult it is to try to keep a puppy from being crazy. I certainly cannot guarantee that she won't hurt herself jumping off something, but our biggest concerns for puppies are repetitive pounding (such as running on concrete for long distances) damaging the growth plates and jumping down from unreasonable distances (such as off the deck). Relatively small jumps (such as from the bed or couch) are less likely to be a problem. The changes you are noticing in her legs are likely due to her growing so quickly which can make their legs look abnormal. The shaking can be from muscle fatigue if it is occurring after she has been active. If you notice any limping or an abnormal gait, I would recommend having her evaluated by your veterinarian.
