Should I worry if my puppy's paw shakes after scratching or itching?

Shaking is a general sign and can be seen with several things that go from just being cold or nervous to being an indication of pain or discomfort. If he is otherwise fine, then it would be ok to monitor him for now. However, if at any point he appears to be in discomfort or stops eating or showing any other concerning symptoms, it may be best to have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment. HI, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Mooska! If she is now bearing full weight, is eating and drinking hopefully she just sprained or strained that left paw. The shaking could be some residual discomfort. I would rest her for several days (no running, jumping, playing rough) and see if the shaking stops. If it persists I'd have your Vet take a look. If you have done a thorough check of his leg and are finding nothing wrong with Chief and he is walking on the leg just fine, I would monitor this for now. I have seen this in quite a few puppies and when I examined the puppy further, I found nothing wrong and it resolved on its own. If Chief begins to show signs of pain / discomfort, I would recommend having a veterinarian examine him so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. It looks like Chief is about 12 weeks of age, so at this age he still needs to go through the remainder of his puppy vaccinations. At his next vaccination appointment, I would discuss this further with the examining veterinarian. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. Muscle tremors in the back legs can be a sign of pain, anxiety, or a neurologic problem. It's difficult to know if the injections might be related without knowing exactly what they were. If the tremors are the only symptom and your dog is not walking normally and does not seem painful you might be safe to monitor this weekend and see your vet when they open. If your dog is weak, having trouble walking, appears painful or has other symptoms like a decreased appetite or vomiting I'd recommend seeing an emergency veterinarian.

Hi there! Congratulations on adopting your new friend a few months ago. Shivering in dog can be for a variety of reasons. Some common, but benign reasons would be from nervousness/excitement, dreaming while sleeping, or being cold or frightened. Some other, more serious reasons for shivering, can include ingestion of toxins, low blood sugar, low calcium, or even seizure activity. In some cases, dogs exposed to the canine distemper virus can have muscle tremors as a residual side effect from the virus. Based on Chance's history of being adopted, with a likely unknown history, it may be a good idea to bring him in for an examination by his veterinarian. This way, they can make sure no serious illnesses are suspected. What can be helpful for your veterinarian, since you don't know much about Chance's history, would be to log when these episodes occur, how long they last, and even get a video recording of a few of them. Again, as I mentioned above, shivering can just be for some very unexciting and logical reasons, such as excitement or being cold, but if it is concerning you, and becoming more and more frequent, an examination by his veterinarian would be a great idea! Most likely it is not related to anything and is only incidental. However, this can only be confirmed after a physical exam by your veterinarian. Lily is adorable! Congratulations on your new puppy! I know how difficult it is to try to keep a puppy from being crazy. I certainly cannot guarantee that she won't hurt herself jumping off something, but our biggest concerns for puppies are repetitive pounding (such as running on concrete for long distances) damaging the growth plates and jumping down from unreasonable distances (such as off the deck). Relatively small jumps (such as from the bed or couch) are less likely to be a problem. The changes you are noticing in her legs are likely due to her growing so quickly which can make their legs look abnormal. The shaking can be from muscle fatigue if it is occurring after she has been active. If you notice any limping or an abnormal gait, I would recommend having her evaluated by your veterinarian.
