My puppy fell. Why is her tail not wagging or staying up now?

Hello. I am very concerned that Lexi may be more injured than you believe. Reluctance to wag her tail or run suggest a possible fractured pelvis. She may not require much in the way of therapy or surgery, but she should be examined ASAP to see if she needs pain or anti-inflammatory medication ( which she probably does ), & what is the best care she needs to recover & not have any problems in the future. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This would warrant a veterinary evaluation for further assessment and treatment. These types of traumatic lesions can result in a fracture of the tail which can be quite painful. Even when a fracture is not present, this tends to result in a lot of pain. They would be able to evaluate her and at the very least start medications for pain. Good luck and have a good night!

HI, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Mooska! If she is now bearing full weight, is eating and drinking hopefully she just sprained or strained that left paw. The shaking could be some residual discomfort. I would rest her for several days (no running, jumping, playing rough) and see if the shaking stops. If it persists I'd have your Vet take a look. I always advise that if an abnormal sign or behavior persists, worsens or other signs develop to always have your pet evaluated by your veterinarian right away. The fall may have caused some soft tissue/bone injuries or even internal injuries that are causing her problems. Also, she could be suffering from something unrelated to the fall. Your vet can examine her after gathering a history and then advise you on diagnostics/treatment. Possible tests include fecal/blood/urine tests and x-rays. Good luck

I recommend monitoring her for lethargy, reduced appetite or evidence of pain (yelping when jumping or running, being pet in certain areas, or overall reduced activity). Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor baby!! I think if he is acting fine now he will continue to be fine! Just watch him closely for the next 24 hours. Things to be concern about are crying in pain, excessive tiredness, not wanting to eat, etc. I wish you the best!

I will copy and paste my previous response with a little tid bit at the end since this seems to be a repeat question that was duplicated on the message board and my previous answer was deemed helpful. He is likely scared now. He will soon come to terms with what happened and likely go back to his normal self after a few days to a week. If he is not whimpering in pain, having any neurological signs (drunken walk, twitching of the pupils, excessive panting, or inability to move his head to one side) or refusing food and water consecutively, then I wouldn't be too concerned. He is likely just still scared that it will happen again. However if he is still holding his tail awkwardly after a day or two, then its best to have him seen by your veterinarian to ensure there are no serious underlying injuries there. However this is unlikely because he is able to wag it intermittently with no problems. Best of luck!
