Is my 6-month-old puppy fully vaccinated for dog park visits?

For his own safety and the safety of other dogs, it would be best to wait until he has received his complete first year round of vaccines including the second parvovirus vaccine which usually is given at around 4-5 months of age though that depends on when they received the first set of vaccines. Vaccines are typically given at 4 week intervals, not 1 week intervals. Stella should be vaccinated at 8, 12 and 16 weeks of age. She should have a complete physical exam prior to ensure she is healthy enough for vaccines. Core vaccines include the distemper/parvovirus combination vaccine and a rabies vaccine given after 12 weeks of age. Stella is likely not adequately protected following your vaccine protocol and should not be exposed to other dogs, especially dogs of unknown vaccine status.

Yes - as long as his most recent booster was given at four months of age or older, he should be considered fully vaccinated. He will need a rabies vaccine from your veterinarian when you get a chance to have this done, but in the meantime it should be fine for him to be around other dogs. Congrats on your new puppy! :)

Hi, I would recommend keeping Wolverine confined to just your house and yard for now. Until all the vaccinations are complete, there is a risk he could either get sick or infected since his immune system is weaker compared to adults. I would recommend rabies, Lyme, Lepto, and bordetella vaccines. Bordetella is important if he will be around many other dogs such as boarding or the dog park.

The Vet can go over her vaccine schedule, get her started on flea/tick and heartworm prevention and discuss having her spayed. I hope this helps and I wish you all the best!

Unfortunately, Maximus is not fully vaccinated at this point, so he should not be going outside. Depending on your state, he can be fully vaccinated by 12 or 16 weeks. If this was his first round of shots, he will need a booster in 2-4 weeks and then his Rabies vaccine at 12-16 weeks as well as his last booster. Maximus should have minimal contact with other dogs (even where other dogs have gone to the bathroom) as you can’t be sure they are not carrying any of the viruses that Maximus is not vaccinated for that can make him very sick. I know it is difficult to keep a large active puppy inside, but your vet can work with you to have Maximus fully vaccinated in a reasonable amount of time.

Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. To be on the safe side, I would wait until your puppy is fully vaccinated. Murph probably developed majority of the immunity already, put parvo is too dangerous disease to take the risk.
