Can my puppy play with a vaccinated dog who visits dog parks?

For his own safety and the safety of other dogs, it would be best to wait until he has received his complete first year round of vaccines including the second parvovirus vaccine which usually is given at around 4-5 months of age though that depends on when they received the first set of vaccines. I think it is fine that she plays with a healthy vaccinated dog and to be walked on side walks. No dog parks or boarding until 2 weeks past her final vaccinations. Have a great day!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! There is a fine line between being too over protective and not socializing the puppy enough. I think walks on side walks and NON dog parks are fine. I think playing with healthy (not recently sick or currently sick) and 100% vaccinated animals is also fine. I do not recommend boarding, doggie daycare or dog parks until 2 weeks after the puppy's final vaccinations. So yes I think it absolutely fine for your friend to visit. Humans can carry viruses. If it has been 2 months since her previous dog died of parvo it is likely safe. She should leave her shoes outside and have clean clothes on. Have her wash her hands before playing with your puppy. If she recently, with in 2 months, had a parvo infected dog that is still alive in her house I would not have her visit. Good luck!

As long as Dallas is healthy, it should be fine for Phoenix and Dallas to interact with supervision. Try to avoid or limit any time the puppy spends outside, and do not go to dog parks or pet stores with him until he has received several sets of vaccines. Phoenix is a cutie! As long as Lola is only playing in your own yard with your other dog the risk for parvovirus infection is low. I would still recommend avoiding places like dog parks where you can't be sure of the health status of other dogs. She will be protected and if she is kept away from other dogs, it's not likely she will bring anything back to the home that could infected the puppy. I hope this helps!

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Parvo-virus is a very resilient virus that lives in the environment for a long time. For this reason, keeping the puppies, and their environments, separate for at least 2 weeks after Roxy is completely healed is recommended, and then I would clean Roxy's environment aggressively with bleach water, and keep the puppies away from the 'infected' environment for a week while you are cleaning it. The other puppy SHOULD be OK because she is vaccinated, however until she has her third set I would keep them separate, because as the first vaccines are being given, and as the mother's immunity is wearing down, there will be times when the second puppy is at risk.
