Is it safe to walk my 7-week-old puppy after his first shots?

The whole cycle for the specific disease that it is used has to be completed and at least 3-4 weeks pass for the dog to really be protected against a disease as that is what the immune system needs to build immunity. So the pup that is vaccinated is not protected yet and should not be taken outside and your other pup should also get vaccinated to get protection against those preventable diseases. Best of luck!

Hello, yes you can take your puppy out for walks however, you increase the likelihood that he may become sick. Because he has been vaccinated it makes it less likely, however, you should consider only allowing your puppy around other pets whom you know are fully vaccinated. We are most concerned with diseases such as Parvovirus, distemper, influenza, and kennel cough. Continue to follow the recommended vaccine schedule for your puppy and be cautious about which other dogs come in contact with your puppy. Hope this helps and best of luck.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! At 10 weeks of age, regardless of what vaccines Ted had previously, he is not old enough to consider him fully vaccinated. We vaccinate starting at 7-8 weeks and give the DHPP (or whatever version of that vaccine) every 3-4 weeks until they receive TWO past 12 weeks of age. I have seen dogs who got their last vaccine at 12 weeks still get parvo (at risk breeds like rottweilers and pit bulls). So while I am not in full agreement with the reason you were given I agree that he is not fully vaccinated yet. There is a fine line between protecting him from disease and socialization. He can be socialized with well vaccinated dogs and can go for walks on side walks. He shouldn't play with puppies or dogs where you do not know their vaccine status or play in dog parks. It depends on your area. I do recommend outside training with dogs that were vaccinated once. Although, still caution people because the puppies are not fully vaccinated. Make sure he does not come into contact with other dogs unless you know the people and their dogs are healthy and up to date on vaccinations. In fact, it's very important to get him out and about at this age since the critical [socialization](https://www.petcoach.co/article/socialization-of-your-puppy) period for dogs last from 6 to 16 weeks of age - so he needs to be out seeing the world, the sooner the better. I would recommend avoiding [dog parks](https://www.petcoach.co/article/dog-parks-fun-and-games) and other busy areas where large numbers of unknown dogs have been, but it should be fine to walk him in quieter areas.
