New puppy owner: Does my 6-month-old vaccinated dog need a vet check-up?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 5 months and 27 days old | 3 lbs

I recently got a Morkie back in December of 2017. She is turning 6 months next week and I was wondering if we (my husband and I) should have her checked out. I guess just a general exam. We just want to make sure everything is okay with her and to learn what we need to do in order to care for her since we never had a dog before. She does have all her vaccinations including Bordetella which she got last month so we could take her to the puppy training class in Petco.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!

I think that is a great idea! Bring a stool sample with you. The Vet can go over her vaccine schedule, get her started on flea/tick and heartworm prevention and discuss having her spayed.

I hope this helps and I wish you all the best!
