Can my puppy be around other dogs after her first round of shots?

Good questions! Puppies start their vaccinations around 7-8 weeks of age so Luna is definitely ready to get her first shots. She can go outside to use the bathroom. Just do not take her to areas where a lot of dogs congregate like dog parks. I would not take her around too many other dogs unless you know they have been properly vaccinated until she is done with all her shots around 16 weeks of age. Hope this answers your question. Yes, as long as the other dog is fully vaccinated this should not be a problem. If the other dog is around dog parks or goes to boarding facilities, then I would try and distance the two dogs while they are in the same household. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I think that socialization is important at this age. There is a fine line between preventing disease and socialization. It is fine for Coco to play with healthy fully vaccinated adult dogs and puppies. No dog parks. She can be walked on side walks. I would always pick up the stool if you think that Coco may want to start eating stool. Teach her to "leave it" early on. Leash walk until you are sure she is trained and isn't going to eat her stool. Stool eating is behavioral and it is hard to go back and teach them not too. Much easier to never allow them to start. Magdalene is adorable! Thanks for posting a picture. I think the answer to your question really depends on where you will be taking her. She will not be fully protected until 2 weeks after her last vaccination, so you will certainly want to avoid any areas that other puppies may have been to avoid exposing her to Distemper, Parvo or respiratory viruses. Since Leptospirosis is also a concern in HI, you will want to avoid water or areas that flood. Sage is protected enough that she can start going outside to pee. I would wait to have her mix with other dogs until two weeks after her last set of vaccinations so she'll be fully protected. Yes you should start her right away on heartworm and flea/tick medication. Ask what they recommend for your area when you get her last vaccinations as there are many good products. Yes - as long as his most recent booster was given at four months of age or older, he should be considered fully vaccinated. He will need a rabies vaccine from your veterinarian when you get a chance to have this done, but in the meantime it should be fine for him to be around other dogs. Congrats on your new puppy! :)
