When can my puppy potty outside after shots? Flea/tick/heartworm?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! You can take her outside. There is a fine line between socializing and preventing her from contracting a contagious disease. Walks outside are fine. No dog parks, no playing with dogs that are not vaccinated, etc. She is old enough for Nexgard, Revolution and Frontline for fleas and ticks. I hope this helps!

Congratulations on your new puppy! Copper looks like such a sweet pup! Unfortunately, puppies should not be taken outside until they are fully vaccinated. Typically puppies require three sets of shots at least 2 weeks apart, starting at 6-9 weeks. Until Copper is vaccinated, he should not go outside or have contact with other dogs to protect him from viral infections such as distemper, parvo, and rabies. You can begin potty training him to use a wee-wee pad before he can go outside. For his flea prevention, you can use a product that is labeled for puppies, and follow the directions on the box regarding the minimum age (most products are labeled for puppies at least 8 or 12 weeks of age). Congratulations on your new puppy - Tucker is adorable! Puppies can go outside once they have all of their vaccines. These include rabies, distemper, parvovirus, along with several other viruses that commonly affect dogs. Depending on your area, you may want to consider having Tucker vaccinated for leptospirosis (a bacteria transmitted in the urine of wild rodents) or Lyme disease (a disease transmitted by ticks). These vaccines are typically given started at about 6 weeks of age, and are then given every 2-4 weeks until the entire vaccine requirement is completed. Most puppies start going outside once they are about 3-4 months old. Tucker should also be on a monthly flea, tick, and heartworm preventative before he starts going outside. It depends on your area. I do recommend outside training with dogs that were vaccinated once. Although, still caution people because the puppies are not fully vaccinated. Make sure he does not come into contact with other dogs unless you know the people and their dogs are healthy and up to date on vaccinations. It's fine to take her to your back garden only before she is vaccinated, as long as there is no access to other dogs in your garden. she can catch fleas so i would recommend treating her for fleas regularly once she starts to go out.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! We don’t start heartworm and flea/tick prevention until around 8 week of age. Nexgard is the only oral flea and tick preventative approved in the US for 6 months or younger. I would continue the Nemex every 2 weeks until they start heartworm prevention. I hope this helps!

If you take him to the same spot every time and make sure there are no unvaccinated dogs around, it should be ok. I hope this helps!
