Can my 9-week puppy play with vaccinated adult dogs after first shot?

I think it is fine that she plays with a healthy vaccinated dog and to be walked on side walks. No dog parks or boarding until 2 weeks past her final vaccinations. Have a great day!

There is a fine line between socialization, house training and exposing the puppy to infectious disease. Most of the worrisome disease are from direct dog to dog contact from sneezing/coughing or fecal-oral. I think your yard is fine. I do not recommend contact with other puppies or dogs are not vaccinated. Keep her up to date on her DHPP by getting it every 3-4 weeks until she receives 2 past 12 weeks of age. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If she is playing with healthy vaccinated dogs and is current on her puppy shots then she is unlikely to get parvo. Parvo is transmitted fecal-oral or from fomites (touching objects that have the virus on it). Be sure that Coco gets her DHPP every 3-4 weeks until she gets 2 past 12 weeks. If she has lapsed between vaccines then there is risk. As for tick control she is old enough for Nexgard which is a monthly oral chewable as well as Frontline which is topical. Be sure to start heartworm prevention as well. I wish you the best!

Unless she has feces on her hair and if she defecates when around other dogs, she will not pass on the worms just by playing with other dogs. However, you cannot say for sure whether or not she has microscopic eggs stuck to her fur or if she will defecate around the other dogs. I would play it safe and finish off the deworming medication and recheck the stool in 7 days (from starting the medication) before socializing her with any other dogs. If she defecates and you pick it up, there is no way to tell if you got every microscopic egg off the ground. If she does defecate outside, it is recommended to remove the top 8 inches of soil from the area to ensure you have removed all eggs. I would also recommend regularly cleaning her bedding so that she does not re-infect herself and that you are using a bleach solution (3 cups bleach to 1 cup water) to spray surfaces down. The whole cycle for the specific disease that it is used has to be completed and at least 3-4 weeks pass for the dog to really be protected against a disease as that is what the immune system needs to build immunity. So the pup that is vaccinated is not protected yet and should not be taken outside and your other pup should also get vaccinated to get protection against those preventable diseases. Best of luck!

Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. To be on the safe side, I would wait until your puppy is fully vaccinated. Murph probably developed majority of the immunity already, put parvo is too dangerous disease to take the risk.

Walks outside are fine. No dog parks, no playing with dogs that are not vaccinated, etc. She is old enough for Nexgard, Revolution and Frontline for fleas and ticks. I hope this helps!
