Is it okay for my 4-month puppy to go outside before all shots?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | unspayed | 3 months and 3 days old | 25 lbs

My puppy is 13 weeks old and got her second set of shots at Petco yesterday. We live in Hawaii and are not supposed to take our dogs outside until they are 4 mos old and complete their shots. My question is: can I take my puppy outside at 4 mos even though it will be another week before she gets her third set of shots? Thank you.

Magdalene is adorable! Thanks for posting a picture.
I think the answer to your question really depends on where you will be taking her. She will not be fully protected until 2 weeks after her last vaccination, so you will certainly want to avoid any areas that other puppies may have been to avoid exposing her to Distemper, Parvo or respiratory viruses. Since Leptospirosis is also a concern in HI, you will want to avoid water or areas that flood. I am attaching a handout about Lepto below.
