My dogs are potty trained but still pee inside at night. Help!

Unfortunately, small dogs are notoriously difficult to house train. You have to keep them supervised 100% of the time until they are completely house trained. This is a very common problem with puppies :) It sounds like the pen he is in is probably too large - it gives him too much space to work with, and makes it easy for him to wake up and find a spot to pee, rather than either holding it or whining to let you know he needs to go out. Instead of the pen, I would recommend having him sleep in a crate in your bedroom at night. Most puppies instinctively do not want to pee where they are sleeping, so in most cases this means that the pup will whine to wake you up if he needs to go out during the night. As he gets older and his bladder control improves, he should start to be able to hold it all night with no problems.

This is typical puppy behavior and will likely resolve once Eva is potty trained more as she gets older. Using Puppy pads and keeping her in a crate through the night may help with this behavior. I would not let her sleep in the bed until she can get herself down if needed. A lot of puppies get injured by being in the bed too young as they try to jump off and break a leg or fall off on accident for being clumsy. It is safest for her to stay in a kennel. As far as potty training goes, once she no longer has accidents in the house and tells you when she needs to go outside both at night and in the day, then she can be trusted to sleep in the bed without having an accident. Most are trained by 4 months of age

This is probably a behavioral issue, but the first step is always to rule out any medical reason for the inappropriate elimination issues. Both dogs need to have a full physical exam and urinalysis tests to make sure neither one have any obvious cause for not being able to wait to go outside, like a urinary tract infection or bladder stones. You can try to keep both dogs in separate areas at night so you can identify which dog is having the issue. Unfortunately, if there is no medical explanation then one or both dogs have gotten in the habit of doing this, and you'll have to break that habit somehow. You may need to replace the carpet with tile, or keep the dogs in the kitchen or other area at night to get the culprit out of the habit. Hope that helps!

The accidents could just be secondary to change in environment and stress. You could keep them in crates while you aren't home and then monitor them closely while you are home. Keep them in the same room as you and don't let them roam your house without supervision. Take them outside frequently and give them praise and treats when they go to the bathroom outside. If you are still having problems in a week or so then they may not have been fully house trained.

Have Bourbon examined by your vet to rule out medical causes such as UTI or congenital defects affecting his urinary tract. At his age, expect to Bourbon to still have "accidents". Reinforce crate training or choose one method of training and stick with it. If you choose the crate, it should only be big enough for Bourbon to stand, turn around and lay down. He can be crated for a maximum of 3 hours (age in months + 1 hour) before needing to go out. This includes overnights. Put him on a consistent schedule for going outside. He goes outside FIRST thing in the morning. Pick a spot outside and wait. No walks until he goes. Praise and reward him when he goes. Place him back in the crate or on a leash attached to your hip so you can watch for his cues to go. This may be circling, whining or sniffing around. Do not leave Bourbon unsupervised until he is house trained. He will need to go about 30 minutes after eating or playing. Take up the water 2 hours before bedtime and take her out right before bedtime. Be patient. Be consistent.
