Rescue dogs peeing inside: Are they really house trained or stressed?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Bulldog | Male | 1 year old | 55 lbs

Got 2 dogs from rescue and I was told they both were house trained and I've had them for about 4 days now and both have pottied in the house...is this something that will change or was I lied to because I specifically asked for house trained dogs because I do not have time for training?

The accidents could just be secondary to change in environment and stress. You could keep them in crates while you aren't home and then monitor them closely while you are home. Keep them in the same room as you and don't let them roam your house without supervision. Take them outside frequently and give them praise and treats when they go to the bathroom outside. If you are still having problems in a week or so then they may not have been fully house trained.
