How much Pedialyte should I give my puppy and how to dilute it safely?

Ten ounces of water per every 10 pounds of body weight per day is about average. So at 14 pounds she would need about 14 ounces of water per day to stay hydrated. This should be broken up into very small amounts throughout the day. If you are giving Pedialyte you should dilute it 1/2 and 1/2 with water. Pedialyte is not balanced electrolytes for dogs and it is has a lot of synthetic sweeteners in it which are not good. Plain water is fine to give.

Poor guy. Yes you sure can give him Pedialyte but only the non-flavored kind diluted 50:50 with water. You can use a syringe or small turkey baster to given it to him if he doesn't take it readily. You can give him as much as he will take readily (probably around 20cc's) and offer it every 4 hrs or so. Poor guy I hope Oliver feels better soon. Take care.

Honestly it is better to give plain water however, if you do give Pedialyte you need to make sure you dilute it first. The electrolyte amounts in Pedialyte are made for humans and not animals and it also has a lot of sugar!! To dilute it: mix equal amounts of water and pedialyte together (ex: 1 cup of pedialyte with 1 cup of water). At 10 pounds, Poppy can have about 1 to 1.5 cups of the mixture per day - divide that into small amounts every 30-60 minutes. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

You may try offering a small amount (1/8 of a cup) several times daily. Vomiting can be rapidly dehydrating in young small puppies, so it can be hard to correct dehydration alone with oral liquids. Poor puppy. He is so sick. Because it has been more than 24 hrs with this pup, I would highly recommend taking him to your vet to be seen. He most likely has a serious illness that requires prescription medications and supportive care through the vet. I would have him seen today if possible. Until you can get him in, offer him some non-flavored Pedialyte diluted 50:50 with water to help keep him hydrated. Dehydration is the biggest concern with puppies at this age who are ill. You can offer the pedialyte in a bowl several times a day. If he is refusing to drink from the bowl then you can syringe 10-20mls every 2 hours or so into his mouth. Be sure to do it slowly so there is no risk of aspiration. You can offer him water at the same time as well. If he is significantly dehydrated however you will need to have fluids administered by your vet, either via IV or subcutaneously. I hope this helps. Hi, it is difficult to fully understand your question. Pedialye should be adminstered orally because the way that you are doing is just causing troubles to last tract of the intestine but it would not necessarily be absorbed. Can King be seen any sooner ? Ideally he should be put on a drip to correct his dehydration. Hope this helps.
