Can I give my dehydrated dog Pedialyte? What flavor and how much?

You may try offering a small amount (1/8 of a cup) several times daily. Vomiting can be rapidly dehydrating in young small puppies, so it can be hard to correct dehydration alone with oral liquids. Ten ounces of water per every 10 pounds of body weight per day is about average. So at 14 pounds she would need about 14 ounces of water per day to stay hydrated. This should be broken up into very small amounts throughout the day. If you are giving Pedialyte you should dilute it 1/2 and 1/2 with water. Pedialyte is not balanced electrolytes for dogs and it is has a lot of synthetic sweeteners in it which are not good. Plain water is fine to give.

Yes, pedialyte is good to give in cases of diarrhea, a probiotic/fiber supplement such as fortiflora is also very helpful. Profuse diarrhea, additional vomiting and any fever or lethargy would require a full check up by your vet

You can offer the pedialyte in a bowl several times a day. If he is refusing to drink from the bowl then you can syringe 10-20mls every 2 hours or so into his mouth. Be sure to do it slowly so there is no risk of aspiration. You can offer him water at the same time as well. If he is significantly dehydrated however you will need to have fluids administered by your vet, either via IV or subcutaneously. I hope this helps. Hi, it is difficult to fully understand your question. Pedialye should be adminstered orally because the way that you are doing is just causing troubles to last tract of the intestine but it would not necessarily be absorbed. Can King be seen any sooner ? Ideally he should be put on a drip to correct his dehydration. Hope this helps.

Hello. If Belle feels like drinking, then yes, she can have Pedialyte to drink. You can also try to get her to eat using some cooked chicken or hamburger, or even jars of baby food ( with no onions or garlic in the ingredients ). If she still refuses to eat or drink, I do hope you can have her examined by your veterinarian. She may have some infection or inflammation that is making her feel ill. Bandit is a very handsome guy! Pedialyte is safe for dogs, so it's fine to offer him some to drink if he likes it. You can offer some 2-3 times a day in addition to his regular water, if you like. Putting ice cubes in his water bowl, or using a pet fountain with moving water may also help encourage him to drink more.
