Updated on September 23rd, 2025

My 4 1/2 lbs Yorkie was put on prednisone this week . He is dehydrated. I can't get him to vet til tomorrow. Can I give him Pedialyte? If so, what flavor and how much?

Poor guy. Yes you sure can give him Pedialyte but only the non-flavored kind diluted 50:50 with water. You can use a syringe or small turkey baster to given it to him if he doesn't take it readily. You can give him as much as he will take readily (probably around 20cc's) and offer it every 4 hrs or so. Poor guy I hope Oliver feels better soon. Take care.

Hello. You can give Buddy as much Pedialyte as he would like. Make sure he has plenty of fresh water available at all times, but you can offer the Pedialyte alongside his water. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
