Is it safe to move my 8-week puppy's bed to a new room or garage?

Congratulations on your new puppy! I love his name! I see no problem with moving his crate to your room when you go to bed as long as he is remaining in the crate when he sleeps to avoid accidents. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Congrats on your new puppy! There is no one best answer here. If you ask 10 people you'll likely get 10 different answers. I always recommend going with your gut but being open to modifying your plan based on the puppies personality. When I got my rescue dog at 9 months, my plan was to crate him downstairs but he barked and I couldn't sleep. So I brought him upstairs and he has slept on a dog bed on the floor ever since. I think you should list out what is acceptable and what isn't (allowed on the bed/furniture or isn't, crated or not crated) and then make that the goal and stick to it. Whether you have the crate in your room temporarily and then move it somewhere else can depend on how needy Samson is in the beginning. Are you willing to let him "cry it out" or not. I am a fan of trying to set up a routine early so they get used to that. He will be needy the first several days but then should start to adjust and you can get stricter. If he is sleeping in a crate for potty training, I would take him to his crate for bed. Or if you want him to sleep in a specific place each night, then I would wake him to take him to his bed. But if you don't care where he sleeps at night, I would leave him where he is, as waking him may think it's time to play, and you will have trouble getting to sleep yourself. You can leave him access to his bed so he can go there if he wants to during the night.

I would crate him at night since you cannot watch him and he is so young. Once you know that you can completely trust him (potty and getting into stuff) then I would say you can let him out of the carte and sleep with you. It should be okay for your dogs to stay in the garage during the day as long as they have plenty of space, a comfortable place to lay down, and plenty of water (and food if they eat throughout the day). You should dog-proof the garage, removing any household items like antifreeze, detergent, paint etc. from areas that you think the dogs may be able to reach. You may even want to use gates to fence of work areas that may have tools, nails, screws, etc to prevent them from swallowing those. I do not recommend keeping a car in the garage with the dogs just in case they were to get stuck in the garage. Overall, as long as the garage is a comfortable temperature and they have a place to lay down, play, and eat/drink, your main concern is making sure that there is nothing in the vicinity that they can get into. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! What a cute name for your new puppy! If Groot is tired it is not uncommon to go sleep and he feels comfortable and safe under the bed. He isn’t mad at you, just sleepy which is normal for a puppy his age. He will play longer as he gets older. Putting him in the crate after he sleeps is perfect! This is teaching him his crate is his den and a safe place to be. It sounds like you are doing a great job! Kisses to Groot!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Beds are fine in crates as long as they are not chewed up and/or pieces aren’t swallowed that would cause an obstruction. If Jasper chews the bed then he shouldn’t have a bed in his crate. I hope this helps!
