Puppy asleep elsewhere. Should I move him to his bed to avoid crying?

  You should leave him wherever he falls asleep, he should be fine sleeping pretty much anywhere.

  Bruno is going to learn the behavior you are teaching him. Everyone has there owner thoughts on dogs sleeping inside vs outside. If you keep putting him in your bedroom he is learning that is where he should sleep. I am a little concerned about him sleeping outside by himself at such a young age. No matter where you live there are predators which could harm him through the night. I would try using a bathroom or utility room to keep him until he gets a little bigger/older and than try to transition him to outside. It is normal for puppies to cry for the first few nights when they are this young. You can try putting a piece of clothing you wear with Bruno or even a ticking clock to help calm him through the night. hope that helps

  Congratulations on your new puppy! I love Standard Poodles - very smart dogs with lots of personality :) Yes, I would definitely recommend moving the crate into your bedroom. Dogs are very social animals, and young puppies like this would never be alone during the night if they were with their mother and littermates - so most pups are very anxious and upset if they are isolated like this. I would put the crate in your bedroom, right beside your bed if possible. You can rest your hand on top, or even stick your fingers in to let him smell and lick you if needed so that he knows you're nearby - this should help him to settle down much more easily and fall asleep. In a few weeks, once he's used to sleeping in the crate with no problems, you can begin to move it a bit further away if needed.
