Hi! I’m picking up my new puppy tomorrow, and I was just wondering if you had advice about the first couple of nights, should I sleep in the same room as him, or should I get him used to his permanent place to sleep stairgh away even though it’s in a different room? People say different things, and I’m not sure what the best thing is! Don’t want him feeling too anxious but also don’t want him to get used to something that’s not going to continue...

Congratulations on your new puppy! Thank you for submitting your question. I would start the puppy wherever you ultimately want her to sleep. If you plan to crate train her (it does help to keep her safe and allows for faster house training), then set this expectation from the very first night. It is unfair to allow her to sleep with you for a few nights and then change the rules on her. She will not understand. Make the crate her safe place. Give her special treats or toys in there so that she likes it. Never use it for punishment for time out. I hope this information helps!
