When can I tell if my pitbull puppies are purebred, and how?

Unfortunately we cannot tell if a pet is 100% anything without a DNA test. Also a pet this young is impossible to tell what breed it is. I would recommend having the pet grow up a bit and then have him tested when he is about 4-6 months of age. You can go to any vet of your choosing, although it may require you to drive a bit to get to if there isn't one that isn't affiliated with the breeder in your area. It sounds a bit ridiculous that your vet isn't willing to do a simple DNA test though, so I would look into getting another vet if this is the case. You need an unbiased opinion here and someone willing to do tests that you are requesting. I hope that you get things sorted out, and hopefully you have gotten what you have paid for. Hi and thanks for posting! It is hard to say if Spot is part Pitbull from the pictures alone. He certainly may be, but it would be good to know for sure by running a genetic test such as the Wisdom Panel. This can be purchased online and requires a saliva sample from your pet. Your puppy does look like it could be a chihuahua, but it's absolutely impossible for me to say if it is purebred or not just by looking at a picture. You can do a DNA test on your puppy called a Wisdom Panel, and that will give you the exact genetic make up of your puppy letting you know if it's purebred or not. https://www.wisdompanel.com I hope this helps!

If your breeder didn't provide you with any paperwork documenting his parentage (such as an AKC registration certificate) then unfortunately there is no way to prove for certain whether he is purebred or not. If you want to try and find out "unofficially", you can have him DNA tested using a Wisdom Panel blood or cheek swab test. These tests aren't always completely accurate, but could give you an idea of whether Halo has any other breeds in his background :)

Since the litter would receive half of its genes from the pit bull and half from your mixed breed, none of the puppies would be pit bulls. That said, the way genes are expressed can vary widely and it is possible that some of the puppies may strongly resemble pit bulls. It is equally possible that none of the puppies would resemble pit bulls. Genetics keep us on our toes and you never know exactly what will happen!
