Is 47 lbs normal for my 5-month-old Great Pyrenees puppy's weight?

Did your veterinarian tell you that they were concerned about Coco's weight? If not, then I would continue as you have been doing. (Remember, it is always better to keep puppies a little thin to help prevent joint problems.) I haven't used Wholehearted's puppy diet before, but it looks like a good food. I think feeding twice daily is perfect at this point. (I will feed three times a day until they are 3 months old, then drop down to twice daily.) I don't have any concerns about what you're doing for Coco, but be sure to contact your vet if you have any concerns since they have examined her and can give you a better idea about her weight. She really needs the additional nutrients in that is in the puppy food so maybe you could try mixing the two types of food or adding some canned food that is puppy food. You could also give her a multi-vitamin to help if needed. For her size she should probably eating about 4 cups of food a day. You can also add canned food to entice her to eat. If you are unsure whether her weight is okay, I would have your vet take a look at her to ensure she isn’t underweight. I hope this helps.

Giant breed puppies need to eat at least a large breed, high quality puppy food to ensure slow and consistent growth. This will help to avoid developmental, skeletal abnormalities. Purina Pro Plan or Science Diet both make great formulas. Royal Canin goes one step further and makes a diet specific for giant breed puppies that is specific for the age of the puppy (the needs change as they grow). Hello. Your picture seems to show a very healthy young dog, but without being able to feel how prominent the ribs & backbone can be palpated, it is impossible to ascertain his condition. A dog, under a year of age, should have some muscle & fat protecting the underlying skeletal structure. With just a little pressure, you should be able to feel ribs & backbone, not sharp points. That is a better way to tell than just by weight because size & bone structure can affect things. If there is a fairly good layer of flesh on your dog, he should be just fine. Because Ghontu is a Golden Retriever, her full weight can be between 65-75 pounds. At about five months of age (19 weeks), she should be around 3/4s of her full grown weight, and her weight of 46 pounds is normal. It is expected that she will continue to grow every day, and I would not be concerned about her weight.

From the picture, it appears that Luna is at an adequate weight for her age. As she grows, her weight will fluctuate. Without examining her it is difficult to say for sure but if her ribs are too prominent, this typically means she is underweight. As long as you are feeding for what the bag of dog food recommends for her age, she should gain weight normally. Again, let me emphasize that at times, while puppy's are growing, they may seem underweight when in actuality they are going through rapid growth which will slow down and the weight will eventually catch up to a normal body weight.
