Is my 13-week Great Pyrenees puppy's 24 lb weight normal for growth?

Pet's info: Dog | Great Pyrenees | Female | spayed | 3 months and 7 days old | 60 lbs

My female Great Pyrenees recently had a vet visit and she weighed in at about 24 lbs. at 13 weeks. is this normal? Should we be feeding her more often or something different to make sure she's getting glad of the nutrients she needs and it growing okay? We feed her Whole Hearted puppy food about two times a day. Suggestions?

Did your veterinarian tell you that they were concerned about Coco's weight? If not, then I would continue as you have been doing. (Remember, it is always better to keep puppies a little thin to help prevent joint problems.) I haven't used Wholehearted's puppy diet before, but it looks like a good food. I think feeding twice daily is perfect at this point. (I will feed three times a day until they are 3 months old, then drop down to twice daily.) I don't have any concerns about what you're doing for Coco, but be sure to contact your vet if you have any concerns since they have examined her and can give you a better idea about her weight.

My Great Pyrenees puppy won't eat puppy food, is she eating enough?

She really needs the additional nutrients in that is in the puppy food so maybe you could try mixing the two types of food or adding some canned food that is puppy food. You could also give her a multi-vitamin to help if needed. For her size she should probably eating about 4 cups of food a day. You can also add canned food to entice her to eat. If you are unsure whether her weight is okay, I would have your vet take a look at her to ensure she isn’t underweight. I hope this helps.

How much Royal Canin for my 3-month Golden puppy & ideal weight?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Ideal weight is based on more than age and breed. Skeletal frame is also important. Posting a picture of Luna would be helpful. On AVERAGE a 3 month female golden puppy should weigh around is between 16 and 22 lbs. It is hard to make puppies fat. I recommend using the bag label for feeding instructions. If she is too thin (see hip bones and can see and easily feel every rib) increase the amount of food and if she is too fat (can't easily feel ribs and no waist) then decrease it some. My puppy is gaining weight. Is it normal or am I overfeeding?

I would feed her according to the instructions on her bag of food, but I would divide it into three equal portions to feed her three times a day. I don't worry about puppies being fat, especially if they are very active. They are growing, and they don't need to be a diet. I hope this helps!

What food should I feed my Great Pyrenees puppy for healthy growth?

Giant breed puppies need to eat at least a large breed, high quality puppy food to ensure slow and consistent growth. This will help to avoid developmental, skeletal abnormalities. Purina Pro Plan or Science Diet both make great formulas. Royal Canin goes one step further and makes a diet specific for giant breed puppies that is specific for the age of the puppy (the needs change as they grow). My puppy doesn't eat much but is active and healthy. Is this okay?

Good question. This is fine. The amount on the bag is just a guideline. What she is doing is perfect. I like them to be hungry at the meal and just leave a little. Then you know they are getting all they want and are not over or under feeding. As she grows she may not eat the mid day meal so that's when I cut back to twice a day feeding. Most foods will have feeding instructions on the side of the bag according to your pet's weight and age, so you can use that as a starting gauge for how much to give. Puppies should generally be fed at least 2-3 times a day, and if your pup isn't gaining weight well, increasing the food amount and having your vet check for any issues such as parasites or illness which could impede weight gain is best.
