Is my 4-month-old puppy's 46 lb weight normal or overweight?

Hello. Your picture seems to show a very healthy young dog, but without being able to feel how prominent the ribs & backbone can be palpated, it is impossible to ascertain his condition. A dog, under a year of age, should have some muscle & fat protecting the underlying skeletal structure. With just a little pressure, you should be able to feel ribs & backbone, not sharp points. That is a better way to tell than just by weight because size & bone structure can affect things. If there is a fairly good layer of flesh on your dog, he should be just fine. Aww Eva is so cute! She looks to be at a healthy weight for her size. As with people, not all puppies grow at the same rate and it’s not always linear - they have growth “spurts” just like people. Also, not all Goldens are built the same- some are petite and slim, some are beefier. Most important is that she is a healthy weight for her frame. At four months of age, a puppy is typically about half the weight of their full grown weight. A female lab weighs between 25-32kg when fully grown, so if Kitu is 13kg at four months of age, this is a good weight. I hope this helps!

Mack seems right on track for his weight and breed. If you are concerned about his body condition score I would be happy to look at a picture and help you decide if it is too low. You can also try adding healthy lean proteins to his puppy food to help with growth. This would include boiled chicken breast and extra lean ground beef.

Fully grown she should be between 55 to 65 pounds, but she won't reach her full weight until she is around two years of age. Her growth will be slowing down as she gets closer to a year of age. I hope this helps!

From the picture, it appears that Luna is at an adequate weight for her age. As she grows, her weight will fluctuate. Without examining her it is difficult to say for sure but if her ribs are too prominent, this typically means she is underweight. As long as you are feeding for what the bag of dog food recommends for her age, she should gain weight normally. Again, let me emphasize that at times, while puppy's are growing, they may seem underweight when in actuality they are going through rapid growth which will slow down and the weight will eventually catch up to a normal body weight.
