Is it normal for my 11-week-old Goldendoodle puppy to sleep a lot?

Hi there and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Yes, sleeping frequently during the day is not uncommon for puppies less than 8 weeks old. Puppies need a lot of sleep just like human babies do and will change as Sugar gets older. As long as Sugar is normal otherwise (is eating and drinking normally, has normal stool and urine, etc), I wouldn't worry too much. I hope this helps!

Dixie is absolutely adorable! I would recommend taking her to a veterinarian. It is very concerning that she is barely eating and is not as active as a puppy should be. I have seen very calm puppies but this could also be due to a virus of some sort and she may need medical treatment. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.

In terms of the appetite, this is sometimes not uncommon in puppies when they are in their new environment. I recommend that you continue to monitor him for now, especially if you just got him. If these symptoms of not eating well and sleeping a large portion of the day do not improve, have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment. Hello. Puppies do sleep a lot. As long as Sky has periods of activity & is eating well, at least 3 times a day, & has regular eliminations, no diarrhea, then he is not probably overtly ill. But if he is suddenly acting sleepy when he was a more active pup, then this is not normal & he probably needs to be evaluated by your veterinarian. At 5 weeks of age it is normal for Dexter to sleep most of the day and only be active 2-3 hours of the day. Most puppies aren’t weaned from their mom’s until 8 weeks of age. First vaccines aren’t given until 6-8 weeks of age so you are right in scheduling your vet appointment for next week unless he starts to have diarrhea before then. Definitely feed him 3 times a day or leave dry food out for him all day to prevent hypoglycemia /low blood sugar which is common in puppies and can result in severe weakness and even seizures.
