New puppy not eating and sleeping a lot. Is this normal?

It is not unusual for puppies to not eat great as they get used to eating solid food. I would recommend you try different kinds of both kibble and canned food. If there is no improvement and he continues to not eat, I would recommend you consider having him evaluated by a veterinarian for that purpose and also to possibly establish care with a veterinarian for recommendations on preventative and early life care. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Short answer is not necessarily. Not all puppies are highly energetic and pretty much all puppies sleep a lot. It also takes some time for them to get used to their new environment. I would give him more time for him to come along especially since he is otherwise doing so well. If at any point he develops symptoms of illness such as vomiting, diarrhea or inappetence, have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Otherwise, he is likely to be just fine. Good luck!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Pingo is very adorable! At 6 weeks of age, Pingo is still very young. It is normal to play for short periods and sleep a lot. Just like a human baby. Also Pingo is a small breed dog and her stomach is small. I would be sure to feed her small amount every 6-8 hours until she is 12 weeks old. The volume will be small due to her size. If you are still worried about how much she is eating then repost with the total daily volume she is eating in cups. Hello. Puppies do sleep a lot. As long as Sky has periods of activity & is eating well, at least 3 times a day, & has regular eliminations, no diarrhea, then he is not probably overtly ill. But if he is suddenly acting sleepy when he was a more active pup, then this is not normal & he probably needs to be evaluated by your veterinarian. Hi there and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Yes, sleeping frequently during the day is not uncommon for puppies less than 8 weeks old. Puppies need a lot of sleep just like human babies do and will change as Sugar gets older. As long as Sugar is normal otherwise (is eating and drinking normally, has normal stool and urine, etc), I wouldn't worry too much. I hope this helps!

However, it does not typically last more than a few days. If it has been longer already, I would encourage you to check in with your veterinarian again so that they can reevaluate Lupin to ensure that nothing has changed. Athena is such a cute puppy! Puppies will typically nap quite a bit during the day, which is normal as they are growing. If you think Athena's appetite is decreased then I would get her seen by your vet to ensure she is healthy and that there are no problems to be concerned about. She may have preference towards certain textures of food as well. If you have not tried canned food (either chunky or pate form) I would try this and see if she will eat this more readily.
